Realistically, here's my actual top 10 favorites out of these 500 records:

10 355 Beach House, Teen Dream
9 370 Converge, Jane Doe
8 431 Big Star, Third
7 251 Pavement Slanted and Enchanted
6 296 Bob Dylan Blonde on Blonde
5 465 Joanna Newsom Have One on Me
4 Sonic Youth, Daydream Nation
3 314 Cocteau Twins, Heaven or Las Vegas
2 224 George Harrison, All Things Must Pass
1 21 Beach Boys, Pet Sounds

It's pretty funny how most people call this list out as "hipster" but give no indication of what it might be nowadays, probably because they know how ironic it would be if they named their music taste as Taylor Swift or Ariana Grande or something.
How paralyzingly dull, boring and tedious!
I think the top 3 would actually be pretty much identical. People often stop listening to a lot of new music in their mid-20s, and most of us are not an exception.
I bet OKC has staying power but I'd be surprised if Funeral still cracked top 20

Idk I've been listening to a lot of new (and old) shit the past decade, my list has probably shifted quite a bit. Do people still listen to Arcade Fire a lot?
You bow to no one, azuarc
Funeral definitely holds up
Honestly the more interesting part to me is thinking of which ones from the last decade would be here

Like Kendrick would probably be in the top ten in some form, but apart from that?

Crack the Skye is probably in the top ten now.

For me, Norman Fucking Rockwell and Frank Ocean's albums would be pretty top tier as well.
Random Access Memories?

The Suburbs and Reflektor are still great albums, Everything Now less so.

lmao I didn't even realize they made an album after Reflektor
it's also funny to me that almost the entire animal collective album discography until 2011 is on the list (not counting the albums they made before they were called animal collective).

the wildest thing on here is probably metric at 29. like it's a perfectly serviceable dance-punk record but what the hell. if any dance punk record should be here it should be silent alarm.
while you slept, the world changed
best metric album is grow up and blow away.

So much jazz from pretentious hipster and awful former user icon
Should really be more jazz on there but it's hard to come to a consensus when all the great players have so many albums
You bow to no one, azuarc
yeah, if anything, there's not nearly enough jazz on this list tbqh.

only two coltrane albums and no my favorite things and impressions? where's eric dolphy? art blakey & the jazz messengers? keith jarrett? wes montgomery? brad mehldau?

There's only one real notable one in the top 100 right

There's a few that I noticed otherwise thogh
Warning: I'm literally VeryInsane.
Funk looks like a blind spot too. No P-Funk, EWF, James Brown, Prince, Heatwave, not even Jamiroquai. Did we all just hate good vibes in our twenties?
You bow to no one, azuarc
yeah, those are also glaring omissions. though i have no idea what the "essential" james brown album would be, as much as i love him.

I honestly think I was just starting to actually listen to music around 2011. I don't think I got into Radiohead until around 2010 or so

Yeah but pretty much that was it!

And to be fair, I still hype them up to this day!
