It was between that and Torment: Tides of Numenera. PS:T is one of my favorite games of all time but considering I'll probably only play one of these types of games this year I had to go with the better reviewed and received game.
Haha, that's kind of how I arrived at Pillars of Eternity myself!

Yeah, a lot of stuff like Emil, the flower field, and Devola/Popola resonate a
lot
more if you've played Nier and are familiar with them. It's still great, but there a bunch of little things/moments like that that can just wow you if you have the original under your belt.
