I mean

It's way closer to the aesthetic of Monster Hunter than his Resident Evil films are to Resident Evil, I'll give it that.

It doesn't look good, but it does look about as good as you can reasonably make a Monster Hunter movie.

Not sure how I feel about them trying to attach MH to our world with a portal, rather than just setting the whole thing in the MH universe, but it has the potential to not be completely awful. Certainly not high quality, but given the average on video game-adapted movies, it isn't actively disappointing.

Anderson's gonna make us all love his wife like it or not.

I appreciate that they seem to be making the monsters actually look like themselves and they use nonguns at some point, but man I do not need the military people in this at all.

There's a lot here that looks and feels like MH, particularly from World, but the military angle is just dumb and unnecessary. I feel like Milla's DeviantArt OC won't be as egregious here as in the RE films at least because MH doesn't have fan favorite characters for her to outshine other than the monsters.

I am shocked and delighted to learn they included a Palico. I thought for sure that would be too weird for this.

The worst part about this is that the monsters themselves look awesome. Would be easier to accept the wasted potential if everything looked like garbage.

I wouldn't call myself a Monster Hunter fan since the only one I've played extensively is World, but man is this just not even close to capturing the feelings I have about that world.

I feel like the whole point is being engaged in this wonderful ecosystem that has these crazy mother fuckers as major predators. Wandering through the environments these things live in, following tracks, seeing them fight eachother... then using their parts to make better weapons and armor. I feel like that's what this movie should be trying to evoke.... and the military angle destroys all of that? It's just some standard modern military guys stuck in a desert fighting an angry giant monster. They are just passing through, trying to gtfo.

At best they might have a scene where Milla puts together some makeshift gear out of a kill or something, kinda like the girl in the first Alien Vs Predator, but it's probably gonna be lame. That scene with the dual blades doesn't look like what I'm looking for, and Tony Jaa's character looks like a bare minimum attempt to placateus with the imagery of the weapons.

I didn't even play Monster Hunter but I just can't take it seriously when machine guns are involved
Then you see Mila actually use magic swords which is..good..but then you realize that 95% of the trailer is about guns and machine guns and you understand that only 10% of the movie will probably loyal to the source material

The monsters do like nice though

So, in Resident Evil, Milla Jovovich played a character who was basically a D&D fantasy heroine... and now in Monster Hunter she's playing a military type who's searching for a missing Bravo Team.

Did they actually plan both films at the same time and accidentally swap the lead characters?

I never saw an RE movie but ive always been confused by them. Why did they invent a character for Milla instead of just having her play Jill? No one would have said she cant be Jill.
