Bummed I won't get to play this soon but I uh...hope the devs are okay. And I guess it allows me to also indefinitely delay my replay of the first game!

Can we please use a word that doesn't have an implication of "forever" when breaking stories like this?

It doesn't imply forever, it implies they just have no date in mind at this time. It could be forever, but is more likely six months if they want a Christmas release.

At this point, what are the chances it becomes a PS5 launch title?

PS5/XboxSX will probably be delayed as well to 2021

Yeah there are two types of indefinitely and this is definitely just the "not yet final" variant, not the "don't get your hopes up" variant. If you're wondering what the definite release schedule for the next four months looks like for bigger games it is:

April 10 FFVII Remake
April 24 Trials of Mana
April 28 Gears Tactics
May 28 Minecraft Dungeons
May 28 Shantae and the Seven Sirens
May 29 Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition
June 26 Ghost of Tsushima (This one is screaming delay)

And some ports like The Wonderful 101, XCOM 2, Borderlands and Bioshock collections on Switch, The Outer Worlds on Switch, Death Stranding on PC, etc. After that you have Wasteland 3 at the end of August, Avengers and Cyberpunk in September and that's all. So there's stuff but if things carry on things could get really really dry in July.

I'm not surprised really. If any game was going to be delayed, it was this one. Releasing a game about a viral pandemic that has brought about the end of the world, when a viral pandemic is currently bringing about the end of the world in real life would be seen by some as tasteless and prompt cries of "Too soon!" Not to mention few are going to be in the mood to play it under the circumstances and have the means and disposable income to purchase it.

In case you're wondering why Resident Evil 3 gets a pass, I think it's partly because it's a remake of a 20 year old game and therefore a known quantity, and partly because The Last of Us 2 is a lot more raw and gritty. Resi doesn't really dwell on the impact of the T Virus beyond it being the justification for creating the zombies. On the other hand, The Last of Us places a lot more emphasis on the downfall of society and the lengths Joel and Ellie go through to survive day-to-day life in the ruined world, as well as others less scrupulous than them. The Last of Us 2 goes even further, with gruesome violence that makes Mortal Kombat look like Spyro the Dragon, and is presented realistically and seriously enough that it's more difficult to desensitise yourself to it. The Last of Us 2 is shaping up to be one of the bleakest, most hopeless games ever made, which isn't what people want right now.

On a more cynical note, Naughty Dog were starting to gain bad press again over crunch on this game, and the delay will give people a chance to forget about that and get hyped for the game again.

Plague Inc has been tearing up the charts for the last few months. This is the perfect time to sell a game like this.

Look on the bright side those of you looking to buy this. At least now you won't be suckered into buying it twice. Because we all know this is coming out on PS5 with 4k 60fps instant load times super edition!

Perhaps they had quite a bit of work to crunch through and their staff's productivity has been blasted by COVID-19 (all the working from home etc.)? And/or they reckon sales will be dampened by releasing during the lockdown.

Maybe they had to change some of the storyline because we are currently living through the DLC

Dont quote me on this I'm gunna try and find it later but I think I read just the other day that its LRG only. Some of their stuff ends up at bestbuy but this one will not

Of course if you're near a store that buys from LRG then you should be able to snag one that way

If they didn't crunch their team to death they would've been out a year ago and would've been able to use the crisis as free marketing for their GOTY Edition
