I can agree that the ordering could have been better but to claim to not get the game because you thought Issac would be playable is just dumb.
What if they didn't add Isaac or anyone I liked?
Hot take: While I agree the ordering could have probably been better, I'd bet money that had K Rool been the last one to be revealed, he would have been accepted much more harshly than he was because then suddenly he'd be the character people perceived as "Taking Isaac/Geno/Dixie/whoever's spot" instead of Incineroar or Piranha Plant.
But yeah. The AT thing is also huge. Like, do they have that much of a disconnect with the fans that they don't know characters like Isaac / Skull Kid / Shadow are really popular and that they should definitely show them as ATs first if they are planning that route for them?

Then Im honestly jealous you can play the smash with free online and custom moves without feeling like you're missing out
Do we have proof this is true? This feels like a case of 'of course Magus would be much more popular than Crono, trust me on this one!' more than anything else.
Some examples:

Geno actually did worse back then than I remembered, but yeah Isaac has been near the top for a while.
The overwhelming sentiment among the fanbase is that the DK as a series was sorely overdue for another character, and K.Rool was the #1 voted in the USA and Japan. The 'not relevant!' complaints would really only have been said by people that didn't like the character in the first place, and they would have complained no matter the circumstances.
Polls
Which is literally the argument being made in the opposite direction. No matter who was the last character, people who wanted somebody else were still going to complain.
There was no "Everybody's happy" catch all solution, here.
That screenshot barely looked like a JRPG setup but people ran with it because, again, they were just desperate for anything
Shadow seemed super obvious to me. Why Ken and not him? I don't even like Shadow and it's really weird to me.

You don't need to make everyone happy. Just the largest number of people happy that you can. They completely failed to do this.

I disagree with you on this, I'm on my phone so I can't bring one up right now but there were comparison shots, and it legit looked like an homage to Golden Sun. Even some of the poses were uncannily similar.

It's weird cuz they made the exact same mistake with Brawl of blowing their load too early. That game's roster is tbh kind of incredible but IIRC they ended on fucking Toon Link and Wolf or some shit.
I haven't seen anyone outside of some very salty users on the GameFAQs SSBU board saying 'this character isn't in, so it sucks'. I have seen a lot of 'this roster is disappointing because the new additions suck'. A lot more than there was for Brawl or Smash 4.
I'm not sure what people were expecting out of Online from "Nintendo"
This is exactly what I expected so that section just seemed fine to me.

...The second is literally just another way of saying the first. They both amount to "The character i want isn't it so it sucks"
Every character they could add at this point for the most part is going to be niche.
They are in a position right now where it is literally impossible to please everyone.
Unless you are ok with cuts. But cuts suck.

I find everyone back was really all I needed. So like everything else we get is just gravy if you ask me.

You know something? As bad as the initial cries of "Too small! No Ridley! No Krystal! No Isaac! No Geno! No Mega Man!" were, Brawl probably had overall the most solid roster of all Smash games. They finished up the true Nintendo all-stars, added in a few cool surprises, removed most of Melee's fluff and added very little.
N64 is a close second. If you're going to pick a relatively diverse and interesting group of 12 Nintendo characters in 1998, you can't do too much better than that set.
tbqh they honestly could've just rereleased Smash 4 and I'd be happy.

Melee had no fluff and Brawl was s***.
