Got offered them for cheap. Big fan of the main series and the Monsters games on GB, but havent played either of the Jokers. Heard mixed things.

I love Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest Monsters, but I didn't care for either Joker.

They seem so soulless compared to DQM1 and 2. Furthermore the breeding charts are obnoxious, especially when some of the monsters require a monster you only get one of the entire game

not as good as the GB ones
Played the first one.

It was... uhh... OK I guess. Didn't bother 100%ing the game, I just didn't care enough to get all moves and monsters.

DQMJ1 isn't bad, but I didn't like it very much. I didn't compare to the GB games, and it was really slow and clunky.

DQMJ2 fixed a lot of those problems and is generally a much, much better game.

Okay, I rolled a 14. What's that mean? Hsu
That you're a cheater. This is a 12-sided die. Chan
lol, mixed opinions as always. Guess I'll just have to try it for myself. Thanks!

I think the bigger a fan of the original Monsters you are, the more potential you have for disappointment for Joker you'll feel.

Especially when you realize they changed nearly every monster name to be more pun-oriented or randomly renaming final bosses for no apparent reason

the pun names are the best thing about modern Dragon Quest though.

No I'm not a damn furry. Looney Tunes are different. - Guiga
Some are good. I rather liked Angel Falls over Wallo. But I hate how they are artificially adding them to certain things. I think DQVI DS was decently balanced in terms of puns, though I don't see what was wrong with the original party names besides maybe Chamuro and Mireille.

Other puns are totally inappropriate and ruins the mood of certain scenes.

Actually, I take it back: DQVIII's localization was the last able-handed one. Captured the tone of the Japanese version and didn't add unnecessary flair. DQIV DS was ruined by overly "creative" localizers.

it wasn't anything the localizers did that ruined DQIV (admittedly I actually like most of the accents and stuff), it's what they didn't do
I hated the accents soooooooo much. They damn near made the game unplayable.

ANd if you're implication is surrounding the party chat, as I think it is, I will NEVER forgive them for that.

The god damn game was fully translated a year before it came out in America. Even the party chat was to some degree translated on the Japanese ROM. It's god damn pitiful that it wasn't included in the US release.

Glad I'm not the only one who hates those DQIV DS accents.

DWIV on NES forever and always
