Yoshida also recalls that a Legend of Dragoon 2 was put into production, but was cancelled for reasons he can’t remember.

I wish this actually got made.

For reasons he can't remember.

That's going to be the best we ever get? Damn, I figured after twelve years we'd get the scoop.

That article is chock full of uber-hopeful comments about how if it sells really well maybe a sequel will come knocking.

Wouldn't hold your breath, fellas. But hey, so long as they keep a level head about the odds there's no harm trying. I know I'll scoop this bad boy up -- and I own a n original-print copy in NTSC and Japanese!

It wasn't exactly the holy grail of gaming but I enjoyed its cheese more than I ever will with certain better-received cheesy titles, I think. And its battle quotes are just endlessly amusing.

I still remember the shouts of HARPOON from the game. Battles were fun too even if they were just timed button presses.

I think the last time I played this was just after beating FFVII-IX greatest hits editions. That was probably around 10 years or more now I imagine.

--

I started a file in 2006 but life got in the way and I never finished it. The last time I actually beat the damn game was probably around 2003, so not too far behind ya!

this game is bound up with the PSX FF games in my mind. seems like everyone who liked FF back then also bought Legend of Dragoon. it's definitely worse than them though!

I remember really liking this game when I played it. I'm not positive, but I think I liked it more than the PS1 FF games at the time. It's been the same amount of time since I played all 4 of the games though so I'm not really sure.

And Chrono Cross and Vagrant Story and Jade Cocoon and several other JRPGs. At least, for me. But I think LoD was definitely tied in for more gamers because it advertised its flash. Sony knew what it was doing marketing the game.

Oh, and Xenogears, but duh.

yeah I lump Chrono Cross in the same category

I don't think I've replayed Chrono Cross or LoD in almost a decade. could be fun to do that again.

I should get this.

And Xenogears and Vagrant Story.

I really need to get Xenogears and Final Fantasy Tactics too. There are a lot of PS1 RPGs I missed that are on the PSN even though some of the ones I want most like Tales of games aren't.

So long as I ignore the fact that it's supposed to be a CT sequel I like Cross.

No way it's half as memorable for me as good ol' reliable Gears, though!

I never played Chrono Cross either. I played Chrono Trigger and thought it was decent though. I remember seeing Chrono Cross in stores a lot, but I never ended up buying it for some reason.

Being a CT sequel doesn't really matter.

It plays completely different and makes almost no nods to it except for some superfluous things.

You don't really have to ignore a whole lot, I'm saying!

Well you have to ignore the fact that major characters from Trigger died like chumps! That's what gets me.

I played it when I was 15 or so, I think I liked it but recognized that it had some serious flaws. I still remember the script being pretty bad. And didn't you have to hold down a button to make text advance? I also don't remember much about any of the characters except the first 3 you play as, so that's not a good sign.

There's a fireplace you can interact with that triggers Dart saying 'this fireplace makes me want to just do it.'

You can't get any better than that, Punnyz and gentlemen. That is some classic, classic JRPG cheese.

In all seriousness I think I'm harder on LoD than I should be because like, all my video game playing friends adored it and I was like "... why"

I just remember the plodding battle system and bad writing.

I think I was like 15-16 when I first played it.

I loved LoD when I was a kid. Like tranny said, I was literally 11 years old when I played it......

but it was seriously like the equivalent of a medieval power ranger RPG. It was fantastic to me.

Pretty cool news.

I think the game has honestly aged better than most PSX RPGs (besides the obviously really good ones)... my girlfriend played it for the first time last year, which was also the first time I'd seen it since 2002, and we both came away with this impression. The battle system is good fun even if it's easy, proto-FFX gameplay combined with a much better version of timed hits than we saw in SMRPG (visual cues are pretty key). The translation is pretty awful even for a PSX game (which says something), but the story does some decent things despite this.
