Will I miss out on a lot if I skip forward?

you would benefit greatly, but its not strictly necessary

i dont know why you would start a series at # 7 though

I want to try the rpg. I enjoyed 0 and kiwami but 5 more games is a lot to get through

The thing about the Yakuza series is that by the time you've finished playing through the games released so far, they've released like four more of them in the meantime.

Like a Dragon was the first one I played and I loved it.

I never had issues following what was going on or feeling like I was out of place by having no knowledge of the previous games.

Exactly same for me. I had faint knowledge of the series via osmosis, but that was it. I feel like Like A Dragon is a perfect entry point for people who don't want to start at the beginning.

I only played like half of them before LaD. Youll just miss a few references. Its a good jumping in point. It got me interested in going back and starting the series from the beginning again.
Favorite series: Super Robot Wars, Dragon Quest, Fire Emblem, Tales, Megami Tensei, FF (I-X), Suikoden, Lunar, Phantasy Star, Shining Force, SoulCal, and more!
YLAD is a fine starting point. Don't worry too much about it. At worst it will entice you to want to go back and see.

Same. All I missed was some cameos being less impactful.

Pretty sure it was intended as a soft reboot/new entry point

it's deff not a reboot in any sense, but it's also deff a serviceable entry point. the wanting to skip games in franchises just confuses me tho, it's a me thing

it's like how god of war 4 is a serviceable entry for those who didnt play the old ones, but players who have would benefit greatly

emotional and narrative beats have some more oomph and layer with the context of prior games.

They're all pretty self contained but they also refer to a lot of stuff in the earlier games. 3 and 6 have a lot of connections. 6 has a lot of connections to infinite wealth which is the sequel to LAD.
I will now sell five copies of the Three EP's by the Beta Band.
Yeah Infinite Wealth is a different story. While YLAD touches on the past, IW drenches itself in it.

At best you could be in a situation where you see the event reminisced on and think to yourself "Nah, it couldn't have happened like that" but it did.

Cause it was their first turn based rpg, which is what I play and not action games. Personally would have preferred if they made a spinoff series turn based rpg and left the main series as action instead of the other way around. As that would make the perfect sense.
