It's probably just because I don't have a childhood attachment to the game, but I've never really understood the complaint. Remake and Rebirth are both excellent. There are some spots where there's obvious padding, but there are far more that flesh out the world and the characters.

It's not so much the amount of games it's going to span, it's the amount of console gens it's going to get released across.

Started in the PS4 gen, will probably wrap up in the PS6 gen.

Yes, they did. The first 2 are great games and I'm looking forward to the 3rd.

Remake came out the same year the PS5 dropped and part three will likely release in 2027 on the 30th anniversary of FF7. Hamaguchi recently been talking a lot about part three so I wouldnt be surprised if we get a trailer at the game awards.

I havent played them yet, but isnt Intergrade a game as well, bringing the total to four? Or is that DLC?

Yeah. It's got good parts, but most of the added shit is such a slog. The story is somehow too over the top frequently, and FF7 is a far cry from grounded

I quite enjoyed the extended look at the Midgar section of the story, which is maybe two hours, tops, in the original game. The more time that I get to spend with these characters, the better.

Intergrade is just an updated version. It contains the ps5/pc enhancements and the Yuffie DLC, which is called intermission.

It all comes down to assets production in this day and age. Ps1 jrpgs could be huge cause areas were just a few screen of pre rendered backgrounds that took days or weeks to complete with a handful of people working on them. There were no other pre rendered cutscenes besides the CGI ones. There was no mocap, no voice acting, barely any animations outside battles

It takes a looot of money and time to do that and it wouldve taken them 10+ years with no source of revenue in the meantime.

Its simply not financially viable unless they wouldve done a AA game. The games have been great, though the story beats and pacing have suffered bc of this
SEXY SEXY!
I couldn't imagine trying to marathon the trilogy after Rebirth. I love the gameplay though.
Trying is the first step towards failure, so just dont give it a shot and you cant dissapoint.

but the story is not really expanded much its mostly just bloat

take the trip to the 2nd reactor its now 3 dungeons and very little story content

the side quests are shallow and empty and dont really add anything

the only extra story content is a bit with jessie which amounts to NOTHING

the big issue is they keep the camera glued to cloud rather than flesh out the other party members away from cloud

and if they want to change the story CHANGE IT dont just do this middle of the road BS

actually change the story

They're downplaying the padding a lot. The fetch quests were awful. Rebirth literally did the Ubisoft tower shit. The new story segments are awful. The best parts of the new games by far is them brining parts of the old game to the current gen.
You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.

You can skip most of the open world stuff in Rebirth if you hate it so much. If you just focus the story missions its still a 40+ hour game.

I admit that the pacing for these games has beenoff and that the remakes lack a sense of urgency. However, my point still stands. These characters have never been as fully realized or presented as well as they have been in this trilogy, and they probably never will again. I will happily take as much of them as Square is willing to give me, warts and "We've been so sidetracked by picking mushrooms and herding chickens that I've forgotten what our objective even is at this point" and all.

With that being said though, I liked Remake and Rebirth. But I also didn't play the original FF7 as a child outside of trying it for 5 mins on PC in the mid 2000s.

I'm willing to bet that the Venn diagram of people who hate that seven has been split into multiple games and the people who insist that unless it's a traditional turn based jrpg that the game is garbage is almost a perfect circle. That second Camp has been aggressive with nitpicky complaints since the first remake demo and it's part of a longer campaign to try and force square to go back to 1980s game design.

This isn't entirely true, the segment of climbing up the plate in part 1 is so much better than the original.

I stopped doing the mini games and side quests in Rebirth though and it's still a solid 50 hour experience if you decide to focus on the main story

and how much is actually added to the ma in story compared to the original 7 for that portion

and i mean actual story expansion not a few conversations between the cast (which is a good thing dont get me wrong)

and how much of it is just making dungeons longer

I never understood this as a defense. "It would have taken too long and cost too much money if they didn't split it." That's only because SE has a development cycle like a runaway train. Plenty of full length JRPGs have been created in the modern era without those issues. SE just has a problem with scaling FF back.
Steam/Xbox/PSN = NoxObscuras
Trials of Mana's remake comes to mind as an AA remake that pulled it off well.

played the first one and got board after the sewers

as it was just stretching every thing out

was not adding anything of note

and was not changing the story (something i wanted it to do)

as i mentioned before the trip to the 2nd reactor is just 3 dungeons with almost no story content

the game could have let you play as tifa and barret escapign play as them doing things with out cloud for abit

but no the camera has to stay glued to clouds ass

If it is one thing i learned about gamers attached to their childhood/teenhood nostalgia about certain things is that their minds is 100 percent already made up and that you are just wasting your time.

They don't like the new thing because its too different. They will just watch content creators or participate in message board echo chambers reinforcing the beliefs they were already dead set on and was never looking to be convinced. In this case FF7 remake and rebirth would never get a fair chance.

You have to just shake your head agree to disagree and move on at this point.

But yes, chapter 15 the Shinra HQ climb was amazing and easily my most favorite segment of the first part.

For rebirth the opening in kalm (huuuge town now), that entire under junon and junon section, barret and red 13 going through the mythril mines, the turks fight (interesting fact, you can smack elena off the cliff and she will actually be out of breath when she makes her way back up), the queens blood tournament on the boat, that entire stretch from costal del sol (mount corel with yuffie leading the party is my favorite dungeon from the 2 games atm) to the barret and dyne thing at the coral desert, running into cisnei again in gongaga (I liked how they had her living her helping protect the town because of her crush for zack).

The Gi segment with it tying into the ancients+the planet was definitely the biggest improvement so I enjoyed the red 13 leader part. (They made him and barret bros in this one).

I also liked the Vincent segment in the basement.

For part 3 I am looking forward to this verse take on rocket town, especially wutai, i have a feeling that there will be a vincent-led return to midgar segment and the hojo confrontation . I am already expecting for the sunken sub to be a full dungeon area.

You literally just said that you stopped playing the first game at the sewers (I'm assuming the first time around at chapter 10. Even the re-run at 14 is still before said climb at 15 though).

You barely played anything.
