I know asked this last topic but I'm still looking for help evolving my Swirlix... I'd use the trade codes but this isn't for the dex, I have a Shiny one I need to evolve and don't trust the random people...

My best advice would be to save frequently. Before every Pokemon you're trying to catch, before every major trainer battle, if/when you hear the wild shiny Pokemon jingle (even if you can't find it immediately), and so on. The game has auto-save (and you can't turn it off) but there are times where you can abuse your manual save to re-try catching a Pokemon or save time resetting to a major trainer battle. Once you hear the wild shiny Pokemon jingle, save immediately . Once you do, that shiny is locked in place and won't despawn until you catch it, knock it out, or it flees. Even if you can't find it right away so you leave and come back later, it'll still be there.

The only major "missable" I can think of is a Steelix you battle and can catch in a post-game mission. If you don't catch that specific one, then the only way to get a Steelix is to trade-evolve an Onix. Also, if you evolve the only Galarian Slowpoke you get in the game into Slowbro instead of Slowking, then you need to trade-evolve a regular Slowpoke into Slowking for the Pokedex (regular Slowbro is much easier to get). There aren't any missable side missions or locations that close after you leave them, and the only missable items might be the ones on the ground during the final sequence of the game right before the final boss battle.

As for starter choice, I don't think it affects anything besides your rival having the other 2 you didn't choose on their team. No matter which one you choose, you can catch all 3 of them and get all 3 of their mega stones in the post-game.

Just bee line the main story up until Emma gives you side missions to help out the residents. Anything before that just restricts your exploration. You can get a free Ralts with a Mega Stone once you have access to Link Play and choose Mystery Gift.
Without truth, there is nothing.

Not that I know of. It's just an annoying and arbitrary distinction that Gamefreak went with. I've actually seen people online who picked the boy character, then changed their hair and clothes to that of a girl's (all of the hairstyles and clothes can be put on either male or female characters) just to visually have them both be girls. It's not perfect though, since the game still addresses you with male pronouns if you do that.

Catching a Pokemon does trigger an auto-save, but failing a catch (AKA throwing a ball at a knocked out Pokemon, not catching it, and it despawning) doesn't trigger one, hence why I said you can reset after a failed catch. Fast-traveling is the other big thing that I know always triggers an auto-save. I know purchasing stuff doesn't trigger one because I saved before buying a bunch of clothing items to try them on and then reset.

Got my shiny charm so I've started more shiny hunts. Found a random Shiny Pidgey right before I got the charm, went to Lysandre Labs and got Shiny Houndour and Shiny Metang by using the teleporter spawning. Current hunt is Fennekin using a bench on a building across from the spawn.

That's annoying. I normally play the girl MCs because they look better, but I went guy this time so I could have the girl rival.

Still trying to figure out what to evolve Eevee into. I've narrowed it down to Leafeon, Glaceon and Jolteon and I've got the stones necessary for them. Just need to make a decision.

Gogoat and Pikachu will likely be replaced. Working on getting Slowpoke to Slowbro to take advantage of the Mega Evolution but probably won't use it much otherwise.

Gardevoir and Emboar will probably stick around for the long haul.

That was my experience in Violet. Caught 3 shinies throughout my main playthrough. Since completing the dex and getting the shiny charm I havent seen a single one :/

Just listen for the jingle pretty much anywhere... Because even the Pokemon outside of the Wild Zones can be Shiny too

That you know of! S/V not having the jingle and shinies despawning means it is very likely you missed at least one. I know I definitely have.

Did the rogue Slowbro and Victrebells don't really have anything for Camerupt besides my Barbaracle but I don't have the mega stone.

Well, all I had to do was joke complain on this topic and my Shiny luck changed... 3 within 30 minutes just running on the rooftops... One's a dupe but that's fine

I've decided I'm going to really buckle down on completing the Pokedex today. I still can't do the trade evolutions due to no NSO and I'm a while away from unlocking the post-game mission to catch Zygarde , but everything else I can get right now if I want to.

They're an alternate color from the normal version of the Pokemon (red Gyarados, Ponyta with blue flames, black Rayquaza, etc.) and make a sparkling noise when they come out of their Pokeball. In the Legends games, they also make a sparkling noise when they spawn in the overworld, so that's your cue that you've found one. They're also extremely rare, with the base shiny odds in this game being 1-in-4096 and going up to 1-in-1024 after obtaining the Shiny Charm. You do get a free shiny Mareep from a sidequest though, so when you get that, you can learn what the shiny sparkling noise sounds like.

That is the one that gives you the shiny Mareep. The location is marked on your map (if it isn't, go into your map, press X to go to your mission list, then go to that side quest and "turn on guidance" by pressing A on it) and you'll find the shiny Mareep there. Once you get there, the quest giver sees it and gives you the quest reward, then you can catch the Mareep. Obviously save before attempting the catch in case you fail it.

Really not a fan of the PvP part. Feels really crappy when you are winning a fight and someone else just shows up and gets the KO on your opponent, and sometimes you as well.

I also have a shiny Sylveon! Not alpha of course, and its on Violet, but still. Nice! I love the light blue color scheme. Its pleasant to look at

At least the requirements for the mega stones are lower for the next one. Even with people figuring out what to do, Rank S should still be easier to hit than K currently is.
