Current Events » The Simpsons has run long enough to see nuclear energy make a revival
The Simspons, which semi-famously features Homer the simpson in a town built around a nuclear facility, has been on the air for so long it's now lived through seeing nuclear energy fall out of fashion in America, due to actually seeing a revival for better or worse with Trump's administration bringing back nuclear energy. That is honestly wild to me, I thought nuclear energy was done forever and solar would be the future investment.

i'll believe it when i see it. no private company is investing money in new nuclear power plants and the modular nuclear that is being blown up by techbros is bullshit.

you want to bring nuclear back to the forefront? you need to remove the private sector from it entirely. federally run nuclear power plants makes the most sense, but that is never going to happen. better to give money to techbros for pointless startup modular bullshit that will balloon in cost and likely never open in the end.

It is wild. But Republicans dont care about science, logic, etc. Theyre just a death cult feeding from the trough of coal and nuclear industry corruption.

Kerping one existing plant operating to power A.I is not bringing back Nuclear.

Its wasting what we already have.

Bringing back nuclear would be getting multiple new plants while freezing A.I off the grid entirely.
I post clips of my cool, stupid and glitchy MH Sunbreak and Tears of the Kingdom gameplay here just for fun.

I would very much prefer nuclear energy over some of the current forms. Solar would still be better, but its a step up.

That was in response to no private company investing in any plants when clearly there are. Criticizing the details of that effort is another matter.

And while I don't care to defend shitty tech companies, Microsoft is restarting Three Mile Island while Meta's contract will massively expand the megawatts of their respective plant. It's all for a terrible incentive and cause, but that's not in contention.

that doesn't fix a damn thing. that's just a pointless waste of power, and when the ai bubble bursts there's no damn way they'll keep the power plant open.

It would be pretty wild if dude was like "I'm bringing back coal!" as well although I could have sworn I heard that, but it might have been a skit or even SNL style sketch.

If Trump actually wants to cut red tape he should prove it by actually cutting a lot of the ridiculous red tape involved in building nuclear power plants.

Yes, some of it is good, a lot of it though is the results of fear mongering.

Of course Trump doesn't actually want to cut red tape, no Republicans do. They only want to cut the red tape that they want to cut and they want to leave behind and in fact make significantly more of it for things they don't want to cut.

Coal power plants produce more radiation than nuclear power plants
In the 90s media Nuclear power plants were considered like the worst thing ever because of the waste it generated.

In the 2020s, it is considered eco friendly.

Coal waste is significantly higher in volume, more detrimental to the environment, more harmful to people, and more radioactive than nuclear waste.

Anti-nuclear propaganda was wildly successful in making nuclear power plants seem like horrific hair-trigger bombs waiting to explode and take out cities and that produce massive oceans of toxic sludge that kills and mutates everyone and thing.

As someone who has worked at a power plant on year 27 now (literally at work right now) and was in the Navy and studied nuclear power and was in power plant/engineering for 5 years I always though nuclear should have been concentrated on more and I never believed solar or wind would be anything but supplemental contributions in small amounts. But Chernobyl and the close call at Three Mile Island scared the fuck out of people and they rode that fear for decades.

Also in my state Google is paying to have a plant that was previously shutdown reopened and will be reactivated in 2029. So while it is an existing plant yes it is a plant that had shut down and is being renewed and expanded. So not brand new from scratch, but still a new plant.

How do you deal with nuclear waste byproduct?

I'm less concerned about the power plants melting down as I am about the trains carrying the material and waste potentially derailing.

The easiest thing to do is just link an article that covers the basics. But basically modern reactors waste can be reprocessed and the amount of dangerous waste is quite low and the most common methods are deep underground storage facilities or dilution via ocean that as of now scientists consider sufficiently safe.
