Either forgotten about over time, or just never really well known period.

Some examples I'd say:

Batman: Arkham Origins
Spec Ops: The Line

ngl, looking back on it some of the Assassin's Creed games having multiplayer, and the multiplayer modes being actually fun, is odd.
Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood to whatever game had it last, don't remember. Black Flag? 3? Somewhere in there they stopped it.

Too bad too, I got really into Brotherhood's, it was super fun. Fuck roof runners though.
I love it when games hide secret versus modes in them, like Mega Man 7 and Yoshis Island.

Apparently, the devs were deadset against this as they felt that the game having multiplayer went against the theme of the game's story. But the executives forced them to include it.

And due to the fact that the multiplayer mode wasn't that good, more than a few reviewers lowered their rating of the game as a result.

The Assassin's Creed multiplayer was a legitimate innovation in PvP combat and I'm still shocked they didn't take that idea and build it into something bigger.

Speaking of multiplayer, are any of these still *running*? As much as they can be since they're likely dead, but still.

Because some of these games having multiplayer achievements bug me royally, and I haven't gotten them yet.

I used to play this all the time w/ my cousins on the original xbox, but it seems like a ton of ppl forgot that it even existed

it's a ton of fun. Kinda limiting cus iirc it was a shared screen (not split-screen) but it was still fun to mess around

Each player controls part of one character, one does moving and aiming while the other decides when to actually shoot or use a power.

I think all the SNES FFs had it. And 9.
I forgot Banjo Tooie had a really robust multiplayer mode until recently.

Also Player 2 can also control everything in EarthBound so I guess a friend could make the inputs for certain characters or you can take turns.

IIRC it was at least 2 modes. 1 with a Batman & Robin trying to stealth take down everyone. But the main mode was a 3rd person shooter between Joker thugs and Bane thugs. And at some point, someone on the teams could play as Bane or Joker.

I played it with a group of people online just trying to get the trophies. It was pretty damn bad, but mildly interesting for existing.

The multiplayer in AC:B, Black Ops 2, Gears 3, and Halo 4 to a lesser degree were my last console gaming memories before sticking mainly to PC after 2013. Good times

I do forget that MGSV had a multiplayer but not really multiplayer, more like Dragon Dogma's approach. I barely played it though
