NASA confirms Earth now has two moons until 2083
Discovered this year but traveling with us since the 1960s, the small asteroid will drift away in 2083
Earth just got a new tag-along in space a little asteroid named 2025 PN7.
NASA confirmed this week that the rock, discovered by the University of Hawaii, is officially a quasi-moon a rare type of celestial companion that travels almost exactly in sync with Earth. So its not a true moon, but it keeps pace with us, looping around the Sun in a path so similar that it appears to shadow our planet as we orbit.
Scientists estimate its only 18 to 36 meters wide, about the height of a small building. Tiny by cosmic standards, but significant enough to earn its own place in Earths extended neighborhood.
i hate modern names for planetoids
Whats the difference between this and say a trojan asteroid. The plume on their helmets.
Why do we exaggerate moons but downplay planetsFor clicks.

iykyk
Why does science now have to have clickbait headlines too? I swear if someone was trying to sell toothpicks the headline would sound like armageddon now. Now?
2025 PN7 joins a small group of known quasi-satellites of Earth, including 164207 Cardea, 469219 Kamooalewa, (277810) 2006 FV35, 2013 LX28, 2014 OL339, and 2023 FW13. Quasi-satellites like 2025 PN7 are temporarily co-orbital with Earth but are not true moons. Some Arjuna-class asteroids with particularly Earth-like orbits can occasionally become temporary mini-moons, gravitationally captured by Earth for months to years.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_PN7
So a rock the size of a house gets to be called a moon but Pluto can't be a planet?

NASA didn't make the decision. That's also not what Pluto looks like. This post is a big phoney.
I hereby shall refer to this extra moon as "Chibiusa".
planetoids do not get actual names anymore they just get a letter and numbersFine, CB211901.
FF14 has taught me one thing about moons and its not pleasantWhat, didn't learn in FF4?
