Of course their Trojan Dragon stopped working as a disguise. And Simon is given the Cursed necklace.

One of the hardest items to find in DQ at least the Famicom/NES version. It being in some chests that alternatively give gold. Back then I & II had chests refilling when you leave and comeback.

The necklace as of the current localization is Choker.

In DQ, having any cursed equipment on results in you not allowed to enter Tantegel. If you die in fact while cursed the king will still revive you, but then tell you to begone.

Here this guy pursues the wearer of the necklace.

But yeah, Holy water to remove the Choker? Don't bother trying.

The Dragonlord merely did so in panic, but yes, the Choker kills the Golden Dragon.

The N Team go on a tour at the Marblopolis Studios which Mother Brain has traps to attempt doing in the N Team. One of which is a Dragonlord robot:

And if anyone had the courage to follow this thread well here's one in the comic forum exploring the Wombatman character who yeah allowed the producers to cash in on Batman without spending the cash to use Batman:

Later this month, I'll be doing another thread like this, but for Mega Man.

I still wish Squeenix would have done the HD-2D Remakes in release order. I get why they didn't but like... damnit.

Thank you for fighting the fight for so long for me.
I dunno how those people managed to animate a whole show with how much drugs they were on, but good for them
I could see you, but I couldn't hear you You were holding your hat in the breeze Turning away from me In this moment you were stolen...

The Blue (?) Bomber did say "Mega High", sorta.

But yeah, even if Captain N and Smash Bros are 100% opposite quality wise, you still have many properties intersecting directly or otherwise.

Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, Donkey Kong, Kid Icarus, Castlevania, Mega Man, Metroid and Final Fantasy.

Specifically Mother Brain for Captain N and even served by the Dragonlord. Ganon during his appearance not so gracious.

Samus Aran for Smash, and as an aside she did appear proper in the short-lived Valiant Comics as Kid Icarus did as well. Only thing is that the third party game character weren't available. Though a letter column confirmed plans to have an appearance by Mega Man. Kid Icarus villain Uranos also was among Mother Brain's League of Darkness.

King Hippo for Captain N and Little Mac for Smash. Little Mac could probably have worked in show as a fighter, but they didn't use him, though he appeared in the brief bit of live action before Kevin was sucked into Videoland. Said bit also is in each opening.

Castlevania and Mega Man, the same as well as Kid Icarus even if Captain N used the game title name for Pit. And for those of us who watched it back then, even with it being more a guilty pleasure, it is still nice to have a game with the three as playable characters.

Additionally nice for having Sonic and Mega Man together again as their Archie Comics lines folded. Plus Ryu and Ken among them as all four were in the crossover comic Worlds Unite. Mega Man X counting if you include any sort of appearance.

Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy some might know, first crossed over in a mostly Japanese only property Itadaki Street (More on one US release in the next post), but Captain N was at least where they had some connection even if not the same episode.

The 3rd Season episode Misadventures in Robin Hood Woods (To cash in on the 1991 film, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, albeit episode was closer to a more generic RH story) starts with a mention of Kevin and Kid Icarus finishing up a mission on Dragon's Den (No doubt involving the spirits of Baramos and Zoma).

Final episode fittingly is The Fractured Fantasy of Captain N with the Prince of Elfheim, Matoya and her Broom, as well as the boss Astos.

Story basically as in the original FF game being the Prince is put to sleep with a potion. Though Astos exploits some jealousy that Kevin has towards the Prince who is a friend of Lana.

If anyone is a glutton for punishment, said episode with the standard S3 drop in animation quality and run time:

Still fun.

Well beside both being in the show, I Wish I Was a Wombatman had a robot replica of DK following the robot Dragonlord:

Last post for this one. Next thread I'll do later in the month is for Mega Man stuff used, plus some of Wily's inventions in the show.

Now prior to Smash Ultimate, Dragon Quest did cross with Super Mario Bros in an installment of Itadaki Street brought over here as Fortune Street, but SMB wasn't entirely left out of Captain N:

- Warp Zones were the term used for Videoland portals. When Kevin hears about them, he asks if it's like Warp Zone 4 in Super Mario Bros.

- The series implemented SMB sound effects including Mario and Luigi tossing fireballs used for the Slimes spewing acidic Slime.

- S1 music includes some of what we hear in SMB and the US version of SMB 2. Three Men and a Dragon use the Underground and Castle music from the first game, and the boss theme from the second..

- Now even with the DVD ls from the 2000s and streaming, S3 of Captain N due to the short episodes are paired with the majority of Super Mario World shorts..

S2 episodes though also had a similar arrangement with SMB 3. One short from it would start the block, then Captain S2 and then it ends with the other SMB 3 short.

Also the last airing was part of an anthology package of sorts with The Legend of Zelda, SMB 3 and SMW called Captain N The Video Game Masters. Both of the openings in question:
