Hello all! Today's mechanic to discuss is the Lucky Fountain from Golden Sun! I'm not sure if something like this appears in other games, but in Golden Sun you collect items called "Lucky Medals" throughout your journey and eventually can use them in a Lucky Fountain which is a mini game of sorts that grants very powerful (for time of acquisition) gear that can't be found anywhere else.

In the original Golden Sun, the Lucky Medals can be found in crates, chests, and they can also drop from monsters. In the sequel, they are a non-renewable resource with only 21 being available in the game (info taken from the Golden Sun wiki). You can also toss gold coins into the fountain but you will only get gold coins in return (does anyone do this?)

Overall I think it's an extremely fun mechanic and something I always looked forward to in my playthroughs. The excitement of resetting to get the gear that I want really made the game stand out when I was a kid.

Yeah I can't seem to remember this existing but it has been a minute since I've played both games

Still wish we could get modern releases at least

To be honest I think it's very missable. I don't remember if they force you to try it or not

I googled it and I'm pretty sure I did miss it because it doesn't seem familiar to me at all. Seems like it might be similar to collectable things in games where you get rewards like the Stellazo coins in FF9. I more or less enjoy that kind of stuff.
I don't remember what stuff you got from it in the first game, but I know you got the Eclipse summon from it in TLA.

The variety they can offer can help drive replayability.
How many millions have you made off of AI? Have you even made enough to quit your job? It's not meant to make you rich, but to make the billionaires richer.

I dont remember that mechanic. Along with 90% of the game because it was all mostly filler until you obtained one specific ability to complete it.

Trying to get some of the items in Lemuria in the sequel was tedious. Fun watching the coins bounce off stuff though.

And morning bump. I guess this mechanic isn't as memorable as it was to me! lol!

I have ideas for the next few topics but if anyone else has suggestions let me know !

Lost Age was ridiculous lol. The game is long af but you could count the amount of plot-relevant events on one hand.

As for the lucky fountain, I actually forgot it was in the first game too. I did the Lemuria fountain to get Eclipse and then bounced.
I remember it but I definitely never really saw it as a standout thing nor did I care about it at all ingame or reset for it or anything. In general I'm not too fond of an extra random casino to get equipment like that, either have the enemies drop the items or have them just drop gold and let me buy stuff like a normal game
THIS IS WHAT I HATE A BOUT EVREY WEBSITE!! THERES SO MUCH PEOPLE READING AND POSTING STUIPED STUFF
Not really. All the items should be able to be gotten from enemy drops rather than just from the fountains. It's more egregious in TLA since Orc Lords (the only enemy that drops Lucky Medals) don't exist in that game, so Lucky Medals are a limited item and any items you don't get from Lemuria before running out are permanently unobtainable.

Yeah, I know both games are easy so it doesn't matter for just beating the game, but it still irks me. Crowns of Glory should be center items and not relegated to purple and outer rings. So I ultimately vote no because TLA's fountain upsets my brain >_>
You felt your sins weighing on your neck.
I used to have to collect at least one of every item so depending on how many medals I had it could be a little infuriating with resets
