Which airport is the best to go for? Haneda or Orita? I'm still very, very early in the planning phase lol.
Haneda is a lot easier than Narita if you don't know what you're doing

Nationwide JR Pass? Yes, expensive and not worth it. The regional ones are still generally a good deal, though.

Do yourself the biggest favour imaginable and please do not spend all your time in the Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka tourist trap.

Seriously, every tourist and their dog does this and you miss the absolute best parts of the country by never leaving those three spots (and no, a trip to Mount Fuji doesn't count).
You got any spots you recommend want to one day plan all this myself. Appreciate it if you can

Haneda it is then. I most definitely dont know what I'm doing. Which is why I've been asking a lot of questions lol

If you go to Narita, youll likely have to ride the Narita Express, which is expensive and slow.

I always go Haneda. Quick and simple.

I haven't been to Haneda but I didn't find Narita particularly difficult to get around.

But you really dont need to know much. You plug your destination into google maps and it tells you how to get there.

I traveled to Japan almost 25 years ago before google maps knowing no Japanese. I somehow managed. Going there now is super easy mode.

Almost all the signs at the station have english, and the train announcements have english language included. You can do it with no Japanese ability.

Yeah okay I've been hearing this a bit, but why is Narita "more difficult" than Haneda? Is it just a matter of a lack of translated directory?

(I ask this as my flight is booked into Narita, I know my hiragana and katakana)

Has nothing to do with translations. You are never going to have any kind of lack of English signage in an airport at a major city in Japan. Narita sucks because it isn't in Tokyo. It's in the middle nowhere in what used to be a bunch of farms. You have to travel to Tokyo by train or bus.

Its not more difficult. Just dont land late when the Narita Express has stopped. I had a delayed flight way back (20ish years ago) and we missed the last train out. Back then it was not fun - finally convinced the Northwest people to let us on the bus they had for people with connecting flights that they were putting up in Tokyo. So at least got into Tokyo and then got a taxi to our hotel

Haneda is more forgiving in that a taxi ride into Tokyo wont cost too much (especially if you only need a regular sized one). We actually booked a large taxi for our flight out of Haneda because I didnt want to deal with sending our luggage to the airport ahead of time.

Any airport is not that difficult to go through. They always have English signs.
Okay thanks guys now I get it a bit better.

Yeah good news I get in at 4PM so I guess that means I'm fine?

Also in the bigger hubs you can often find translators to assist. In Sapporo station for instance at JR ticketing station, the customer service section? We got help planning one of our trips from a lovely lady who's job is just being an English translator, she had an arm band saying English or something like that.

Grats TC. Im going to Ecuador next month. Though Im going to try and do Japan next year if I can avoid using any of my PoT by then.

The biggest issue aside from cost being the travel time. So anything less then 2 weeks isnt worth it to me.
