Last month, one of the largest retailers in the world, Costco, confirmed that it would no longer be selling Xbox consoles. Now, several other vendors may be following suit. According to Reddit users who claim to work at Target and Walmart, both stores have begun removing their Xbox stock en masse. "On Wednesday, the Target I work for has removed all Xbox games and I'm pretty sure it will be store wide," u/Jawwaad127 alleged. "All the games have been discontinued and will likely go [on] clearance."

"I can count on one hand the number of times I've sold an Xbox game."

"My local Target is getting rid of their Xbox section," u/CodeE1985 posted, attaching photo evidence. "The electronics manager says they will no longer carry systems, games, or accessories. He also said all Targets in the Kansas City area are purging Xbox stock as well." "The Walmart store I work at is getting rid of Xbox games, too," u/Spacefox_85 commented. "We are doing a store remodel now, and the new layout for electronics will have no Xbox games, and Switch and PlayStation will be condensed to one lock case each. In the year or so I've been in electronics here, I can count on one hand the number of times I've sold an Xbox game." Several commenters also claim that when visiting their local stores, they couldn't find any Xbox stock, corroborating these stories.

"My local Walmart just went through this remodel and it's crazy," u/Ok-Designer5545 replied. "A handful of remaining Xbox games live in one half of one shelf at the bottom of the PS end cap case." "The Walmart near me hasn't carried consoles in months," u/tbear87 claimed. "The section is still there, and there are some games, but it honestly looks sad."

When browsing Target's stock online in the Kansas City area, you'll find that Xbox products are notably limited, much as these Reddit users claim. In the Kansas City North store, for example, there is only one Series S available, as well as a handful of controllers, and "limited stock" on several games, including Doom: The Dark Ages. Meanwhile, there is an abundance of PS5 games, consoles, controllers, and PlayStation Portals, along with accessories and merch, and the same goes for the Nintendo Switch 2.
It is what it is, man.
Xbox logic: no one buying our consoles... I got a idea let raise the price on our console and gamepass.

Wow. So the rumors were true. Xbox is dead.
Why, though? Is it because nobody is buying them?

Microsoft is supposedly not going to support Xbox much longer. Rumor is there is no next generation xbox planned. The Playstation 6 will be unopposed unless you count Switch 2
Now's the time to buy Xbox games I guess?

Ok but why does that mean they can't put them on clearance or something?

I kind of dropped out of gaming for a few years but i've heard Xbox is largely obsolete now bc Microsoft let's you play any Xbox game on PC? OR they've been basically consolidating the Xbox brand into a PC sort of experience for awhile anyways? No idea how accurate any of that is bc like I said, I haven't been paying attention lol.
Science and Algorithms
It feels like MS gave up on the console side of things as soon as they announced that first party games would be coming to PC and PC gamepass on day 1. As much as exclusives suck for the consumer, they serve a clear business purpose of pulling people into that console's ecosystem.

When I was looking to buy one 2 months ago. No one had one. One had to pop up on Amazon. So yea the stock has been low for awhile.

A shame a dumb decisions 11y ago go them in this position. Companies pushing for certian features caused most of the damage. Thanks Ubisoft, Thanks EA, Thanks MS. You sank your boat.

End of a decade long error. The Xbox has been an unfocused mess since the One. Way too many mediocre releases with confusing names and idiotic barriers of entry. Im someone who loved the openness of the 360 era, particularly with Guitar Hero and Rock Band peripheral compatibility and great hardware support. That all went away stating with the Xbone where they disallowed legacy controllers without a specially crafted adapter that was unreliable and discontinued rather quickly.

Not to mention the stupid ass console names. Imagine naming your system Xbox One X which contains three Xs.
Kind reminder not to defend corporations when they make dumb/anti-consumer decisions.
You think they will send them all to third world countries like they do with non-winning team Super Bowl apparel?
See you next Wednesday.

my local walmart actually just expanded their switch and xbox sections while consolidating the playstation section into the old switch cabinets that are bigger.

if i wasn't important then why would you waste all your poison
My Walmart's Xbox section is pretty small and they haven't put any new games out for it in a while.
Insert some witty line here
I always did kind of wonder why you'd ever get an xbox over like a basic midrange PC in the decade-plus that couch co-op has been dead as hell
Why not go all in?
Will be the second time posting this in a month on here but

remember when people said that buying activision was good for gaming? Xbox fans were excited and talking shit about $ony and bam.

The writing was on the wall. We already talked about Micro$oft wanting to start streaming their games and practically step out of the hardware business.

They just want to push Gamepass.

Which makes me wonder if that's why they increased the price so drastically. Not a lot of Xbox gamers even have a PC...so are they just going to lose business or plan to get into the third party market? Maybe push Gamepass onto Playstation and Nitnendo consoles? lol

Or even Roku? lol

I'm pretty sure that's been debunked, they have a deal with AMD for their internal thingies (can't remember what they're called, lol).

Yea, I'm sure something is going to come out, the question is how much support does it get. They're already giving up on the Series X/S, releasing first party games on Playstation. I'm betting this thing gets released and then from there is basically PS Vita levels of support until it just dies.

Yeee. I did the whole reset this week for target and xbox games are no more. They've been shrinking a lot over the years. Went from an entire aisle to just one 4 foot section, then gone. Meanwhile Playstation and Nintendo have their aisles. I can't even remember the last time someone bought an Xbox game tbh.
I wouldn't trust this company with making a cheese sandwich, they'd start an additional kickstarter for the mayo -ssjmatthew on Comcept's MN9
Interesting...as someone that pays no attention to the Xbox - I do have to question their marketing around the current Xbox. I always get really confused when someone says Xbox. One, S, X?

Hopefully Nintendo and Sony can continue to survive so that there is at least a two way competition.
