wasn't he one of Trump's "only the best people" from the first administration?Comey was just that, until he wasn't corrupt enough for Trump.
What a complete joke we had 4 years and Garland just sat around and did nothing. They kept Aileen Cannon on the documents case too even though there was a clear conflict of interest. As I recall, there wasn't even a motion to try to get that case before a different judge.
As I recall, there wasn't even a motion to try to get that case before a different judge.
One is left with the question of what would have been different if the plan of record had been to deliberately allow all the Federal cases against Trump to go tits up.
You can't make a motion to DQ a judge because they're making rulings you dislike.Please. The case for Cannon's bias was overwhelming even before she dismissed the case. After she dismissed the case, it was rock solid.
Please. The case for Cannon's bias was overwhelming even before she dismissed the case. After she dismissed the case, it was rock solid.
And even if the case agains the biased judge was doomed to fail because the system stupidly assumes all judges are incapable of being corrupt in this way, the attempt still needed to be made.
You can't make that motion for dismissing a case, either. There are remedies for that you can take. A motion to recuse is not one of them. Were any remedies even attempted for that obviously corrupt dismissal of the case?
There was a lot of chatter about how they were setting up enough evidence to change judges but they only get one chance at it so they didnt want to pull the trigger too quickly. But the DOJ were never acting like a second Trump term was an actual possibility. All that chatter was completely meaningless. What did these prosecutors actually do about that corrupt hack Cannon fucking up the documents case (by far the easiest case against Trump).
Were any remedies even attempted for that obviously corrupt dismissal of the case?
Someone at random? NoIt won't stop at him.
Comey in particular? Yeah, fuck him.
They appealed it on August 26, 2024.
Thanks. I suppose the election result mooted the appeal, based on the stupid idea that a sitting president is above the law.
And thanks for the other points as well -- sure judges shouldn't be getting booted from cases frivolously.
However, I do think there's a basic structural problem with how due process applies in practice in the US legal system, where the worst defendants in the world get off easy if they are rich/connected enough
If only the Democrats had moved this quickly on Trump
Merrick Garland was JUST ABOUT to do something. Probably. Maybe. Okay, maybe not.Dems thought it was some kind of moral win to have the guy who was denied a Supreme Court seat getting to run the Justice Department. They forgot that he was always meant to be a compromise, lukewarm candidate that could squeak by in a Republican Senate.
Merrick Garland was JUST ABOUT to do something. Probably. Maybe. Okay, maybe not.He was so bloody useless.
So, youre cool with the government doing this to someone just because you dont like him?
No one should be getting charged criticizing Trump, which this is
doesnt change the fact the at Comey is basically the reason trump got elected.
Dems thought it was some kind of moral win to have the guy who was denied a Supreme Court seat getting to run the Justice Department. They forgot that he was always meant to be a compromise, lukewarm candidate that could squeak by in a Republican Senate.Maybe if they get back into any sort of position of power they'll have learned the lesson that's been beat over their head for the last 8 years and stop trying to make compromises with Republicans.

If only the Democrats had moved this quickly on TrumpTheyre going after something that happened in 2020. Comey has been on Trumps enemies list for 8 years. Your point that the opportunity to prosecute Trump was squandered is valid, but this is hardly an example of swifter action.
Dont these fucking fools realize that dictators, even wannabe ones, dont stick with just hurting the opposition for long? This will be America's first time dealing with a dictator first-hand, so no, they don't.
Maybe if they get back into any sort of position of power they'll have learned the lesson that's been beat over their head for the last 8 years and stop trying to make compromises with Republicans. Why would they learn that lesson when establishment dems and republicans serve the same masters?
