Thanks. I suppose the election result mooted the appeal, based on the stupid idea that a sitting president is above the law.

And thanks for the other points as well -- sure judges shouldn't be getting booted from cases frivolously.

However, I do think there's a basic structural problem with how due process applies in practice in the US legal system, where the worst defendants in the world get off easy if they are rich/connected enough
