Remember Grand Juries are INFAMOUSLY easy to get indictments from.

They got him on one count of making false statements and one count of obstruction of justice

Hey, Jo, I'll accept critique on this from people who aren't you, given how often you post false and misleading information.

The actual charge is lese-majeste, but DOJ has to pretend otherwise to support the lie Comey has done something worth prosecuting under US law.

"got him". It's pretty low tier charges, from my understanding. 100 percent politically motivated

There's something darkly ironic about it. Comey helps Trump win.

Trump has Comey prosecuted out of personal pique

So, there's a long road for this, but...

I don't think the indictments have been unsealed yet so there's stuff we can't properly judge...trumped up charges can bear a germ of truth to see them through. But Comey is gonna lawyer up, as Starks said file vindictive prosecution motions...

I'd be a little surprised if this even makes it to trial depending on the judge. And I'd be SHOCKED if he were convicted

1.I hate Comey. He is scum.

2.This country is a joke now. Trump openly using the DOJ to go after political enemies, and no one in government has the spine to do anything about it. These charges were already looked at multiple times and found to be utter bullshit by everyone who looked. But he opposed Trump after handing him the 2016 election, so now there have to be charges before the SOL expires on Tuesday.

This is not the way a free society is supposed to function. This is a clown car. I am going to keep voting against this shit and donating and protesting. But is anyone actually in government ever going to show some backbone and say enough is enough? Preferably someone on the Right which controls all three branches of government?

Dont these fucking fools realize that dictators, even wannabe ones, dont stick with just hurting the opposition for long? Comey was a Republican too, and one that paved the way for a Trump presidency in the first place.

An opinion does not turn into a fact simply because the person holding it feels strongly about it.

Let me say that the Right had a chance, TWICE, with his impeachments. McConnell, despite hating Trump on a personal level, chose to spare him for the sake of personal power.

Yes. This infuriates me to no end.

It's sad that all of there have been several chances to avoid all of this, but they were all squandered due to one bad reason or another. It just shows how bad (and stupid) the political elite of both sides are.

Words cannot describe how much I detest McConnell. He is the quintessential example of an evil corrupt politician.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction has to make sense.

The GOP Congressional caucus is still full of Republican traitors that voted in favor of Trump's coup on 1/6. The Republican party is literally a cancer on the nation whose power must be ended before they kill us all.

Regarding Comey's indictment, here's what I'd like to see the judge do at the very first opportunity:

"This case is dismissed with prejudice because it is obviously a political hit job ordered by Trump. Do not insult everyone's intelligence by pretending otherwise. The next DOJ attorney that brings a case like this to my courtroom will be immediately referred to all their bar associations with a recommendation for disbarment. The only reason I'm not doing that to today's DOJ attorneys is because I'm feeling unreasonably merciful."

Prosecutors should be disbarred for shit like this, but they won't be. That's one of the things the Trump gang is relying on as they have their DOJ file all this frivolous crap full of lies.

McConnell explicitly said Trump was guilty, then voted to acquit him anyway. I hope history judges him fairly - not that he cares.
I'm going to say, straight up, that being okay with this is short sighted at best.

They're not starting political prosecutions with sympathetic people. Comey is a fuckhead who's responsible for Trump's presidency, yes. They're also gonna start with politically motivated hits on the least sympathetic people and then expand them from there.

This is not a drill. This is "oh, you want rights for criminals?" Yes, I do. I want Comey jeered in public and made a pariah. I don't want him prosecuted for insulting Dear Leader because that puts us ALL at risk

When will Trump mouthpieces start getting disbarred for filing frivolous shit like this?

Never, of course, but the question should still be asked.

This is a good case study of how fascists like Trump are exploiting any and all pre-existing corruption to help their cause.

In this case, that pre-existing corruption is the pro-prosecutor and pro police tilt of the entire criminal justice system, along with the total unwillingness of the legal profession to police its own for lying to courts and the like.

Yeah. People are not recognizing that if this is successful then the precedent is set and there will not be much in stopping the follow up.

That is the reason to defend rule of law -- not to defend a prick like Comey, instead the point is to defend everyone who the Trump gang will target after Comey.

It's the equivalent of targeting Hamas supporters because "we don't want terrorist lovers here!"

Yeah, now they're whittling away free speech protections by going after the least sympathetic people first.

Seems like it'll be pretty easy for him to organize a defense based on the original facts of the original investigation (is it lying if your statements are based on information you have at hand) coupled with the fact that Donald literally told the DOJ less than a week ago to prosecute his political opponents (oh look, a politically motivated indictment)
