It's scary how effective the propaganda has been. Regular everyday people are brainwashed into believing that cleaner, renewable energy is backed by evil shadowy organizations and dark money who are bullying the poor defenseless and humanitarian fossil fuel industry.
They were already predisposed towards that mindset; it's a convenient and comfortable one for them to be in. The world isn't melting, we don't need to make any lifestyle changes, we can keep things the way they've always been. Everything's doing just fine! They just needed someone in a position of authority to tell them it's OK to think that.
