Due to the Trump administration, I mean.
Just curious.

The idea of leaving USA is wild. You realize this is the only country one can get in n out burger right? Aka one of the key reasons for staying.

I live in Detroit so I think about taking the short drive to Windsor Ontario and just living there.

Sure do

Or at least in a blue state, if you live in a red state.

Yeah, Canada would be one of a few obvious choices I guess.

Canada or Ireland aren't an option?

Yeah but I can't just get another country to give me citizenship.

Left the US in 2013 and won't return. Food in the US is so good though. Not cheap anymore though.

Yes but it's easier said than done. My main issue is moving five cats to another country, one that won't force them to quarantine, the trauma of moving is bad enough. I'm not giving up my cats because of that piece of shit in the White House.

Another is having to give up a lot of things that I've accumulated over a lifetime since moving everything doesn't seem feasible.

Of course there is also the probability of a language barrier.

But yeah, I fucking hate what this country has become and would love to get out.

No.

1) I think a lot of people are underestimating the drawbacks and curve to adapt to other societies. It's not impossible, has potential to indeed be better quality of life than what we have here, but you need to be in a position to properly adapt.

2) Dominic Torreto said don't turn your back on America even if America turns its back on you. I'm in the same fight and struggle with other actual Americans. The oppression and corruption present is not America. It's trying to take the country. You don't need the country when you've got America.

Yep. It feels extra alienating living in a Red state knowing how many of those MAGA traitors straight up hate freedom and pray for fascism.

Where would you go? Social media-fuelled fascism is on the rise everywhere, especially in Western countries in Europe and Aus/NZ but also now in Asian democracies. Americans need to stay at home and fight. Nobody on the planet is more difficult to deal with than a stubborn American who refuses to budge.

Friends and family briefly mused about what it would be like to move to Portugal when Trump won (the first time). Nothing serious.

Trump is pursuing a chaotic far-right overthrow of existing US government norms and checks and balances, trying to destroy our way of life.

I wish I could afford it. I've wanted to leave for many reasons and many years, Trump is just the most recent and extreme.

I've been wanting to leave for a few years, but I never really looked into it seriously. I need to get my passport renewed.

I claimed my citizenship by descent and got it for my children. Went to the consulate and got passports as well. So can take off if things get bad.

Yes. I'm a dual citizen. My mom is an immigrant and recently moved back to Europe for her retirement after living in the US for over 4 decades.

I intend to do the same.
Yeah. I hate that I love my family so much, I've had multiple and currently have an extremely solid way out to a better country, but I can't bring myself to leave my family.

Originally not specifically because of Trump, I just never felt like I belonged here. But especially after Trump I want to leave so bad.

My ideal would be Germany or Sweden but my wife doesn't want to move again.

I've looked into that, but I learned my progenitors came to the U.S. long enough ago that I'm too many generations removed for any citizenship by descent. I might be stuck here; who would want to hire an American right now?

I tried to talk my family into it right after the election, but they didn't want to go and didn't believe me when I told them how bad it was going to get.
And even today, right now, they refuse to go and we're only at the half way point. This time next year, America will be unrecognizable. Free speech will be dead, history will be rewritten, the economy will be in shambles, the truth will be illegal and the devil will be smiling.

Not due to politics. After visiting Europe I wouldnt mind living there.

i live in canada right near the border. i used to take my grandma down to visit her friends just across the border but i refuse to go to the states anymore so she has to rely on my parents to take her now.

and yes, they do attempt to guilt trip me, along with a fair amount of "the people saying people are getting detained are lying, there's nothing going on with the border"
