I've heard that this game has a buttload of endings but I'm going in completely blind, so let's see which one I get. If the game is short and/or enjoyable enough that replays won't take too long, I might try for other endings. I don't know anything about the characters, and only know the barest minimum about the plot based on pre-launch promo material (group of kids trapped in a high school, but this time they're fighting monsters or something instead of having a killing game with each other)

I'm a big fan of the Danganronpa series so let's see how this one compares for me (I also have Rain Code that I need to try as well, but this game seems to have more excitement and fanbase around it)

Got pulled away earlier than I would have liked while playing yesterday due to a family emergency, but I did play through the first battle.

First impressions of each character, fuck no I can't remember their names yet so I'll just go with vague descriptions:

Main Character - Kind of the standard "I'm just a boring normal guy" Danganronpa protagonist, gonna wait and see how he develops. I was expecting his friend to get recruited into the school with him for some reason but I'm sure she'll probably pop up later.

Motorcycle Guy - I kinda like him. He reminds me of Mondo from Danganronpa 1, a tough guy but he actually really cares about the people around him. He seems like he's pretty good at handling minion enemies in battles with his attack that hits everyone around him and boosts his armor if he moves, which is going to be handy.

Short Guy - Eh, didn't make much of an impression on me yet. If his personality just stays at "Nobody likes me because I suck :( " then that's going to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Twins - The boy twin is immediately hateable and if permanent death is a thing in this game I hope it's him. The girl twin doesn't have much personality yet other than seeming to really like remote control things, that's probably intentional because of how her brother just jumps all over conversations you try to start with her. I can see it happening where the brother dies and the sister becomes more self-reliant.

Smart Guy In Coat - Really getting Nagito / Byakuya vibes off of him this early, not much to say other than that.

Girl With Huge Axe - She's really strong in battles now but I can see her being the kind of party member that plateaus early and becomes less useful once other party members get more stats/skills, assuming that's how character growth works here. Personality-wise I'm kind of meh on her, feels like an archetype that's already been done to death elsewhere.

Wuss - That's about all this guy is right now, just an irritating, whiny wuss. I have a bad feeling they're going to push him as the "best friend" archetype that spends a lot of time around the player, his overall design seems to suggest that.

Nauseous Mechanic Girl - I like her, she seems like a "just a normal person" type character like Aoi in DR1 or Kazuichi in DR2. A normal personality type to balance out the cartoon characters that fill out the rest of the cast. She's got a pretty nice outfit design, too. The constant near-vomiting is something that could eventually grind on me and lose her a lot of points if they lean on the gag too often, though. We don't need another Monophanie here.

Danganronpa Fangirl - She's either here as a stand-in for the Danganronpa fanbase who assumed this game would be exactly the same, or she's here to suggest that this game takes place in the same universe. Not sure yet. Either way she died and her corpse got taken away, so either she didn't have a huge role to play or it's the game setting up that death in battle has no actual consequences and don't worry about it too much.

I think that's everybody but if I forgot anyone it probably means they suck too much for me to care about lol

That's a good idea. This game is pretty special, and I recommend playing it completely blind.
"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." -- 1984
Yeah I played blind first and that was pretty much the best way to do it.

Its definitely not short though its one of the longest VNs Ive ever read and Im still not done.
Yep, death has no consequences, at least probably not until later in the game when it suddenly does. The description of how the Revive-O-Matic works has me thinking there's some kind of cloning tech going on, and the amount of attention given to it and the revival process put a little bug in my head that it might be what the invaders are after and the Defense Room is a decoy.

(Also a little bug that the invaders are humans and our perceptions are altered to see them as monsters, which would be suitably dark for these developers)

Five empty bedrooms on the roof, which suggests there are at least five other characters that will be joining the cast at some point. The bedrooms also have the same layout as the ones in Danganronpa V3, which is either deliberate to troll Danganronpa fans into looking for connections (it's working) or another way to imply that a connection exists, like how the words "hope" and "despair" are starting to get tossed around a bit, the music is very similar, and Sirei has a little Monokuma head that shoots out of his party popper (but I'm willing to write this last one off as a reference)

Curious if the references to "Class Weapons" and "Class Armor" means that each character will have multiple combat classes they can switch between, or if it's just because they're considered to be a class in the school.

I can't wait to pull a Persona 5 and misuse my free time so I don't recruit all the characters as fighters or max out social links or whatever this game is gonna have me doing to fill out the 100 days lol

I'm so tempted to look up a walkthrough to make sure I don't waste free time and can't max out everybody's abilities, but it seems straightforward enough. Exploration is kind of fun and I appreciate the game just outright telling you who boosts each study category.

Also forgot to mention that the little dream sequence on Night 2(?) has me suspecting that there's some brainwashing at play here. And the fact that Hiruko starts off with her skills leveled up so much higher than everybody else has me suspecting that she:

A - Has been part of the defense team before
B - Will die early
