For me it would have to be Arthur Clarke's sci-fi classic, Rendezvous with Rama. We need more of these types of science fiction stories in cinema.

This topic is also a super secret recommend me some good books topic.

They could have put all the political bits but then you would have less action. Bait and switch. They did the same to enders game.

These book covers kind of remind me of one of those which way/choose your own adventure types of books from back in the day.

They're already making Best Served Cold from The First Law universe, but if they could adapt every other book too, oh baby yes please.

Tv series

I was a huge fan of Brian Lumley's Necroscope series. With the exception of parts of books 5, and all of the VW Trilogy. It can be done on a TV budget. You could trim that Trilogy down to 2

His other series like Titus crow and that one with the psysic machine are good too.
All the iron turn to rust. All the proud men turn to dust. All things time will mend
The sequel to hitchhikers guide to the galaxy..

Animorphs reboot (or a proper tv series)

I'd love to see a movie of The Warriors that actually follows the book.
I only appear to be out of line because I am the only one who is in line.
Forgive my long reply in advance but I need to set up some backstory. I'm a voracious reader but my issue from a young age was I devoured books so much that I pretty much after high school almost completely abandoned single books unless they were a good size like the complete and uncut version of The Stand. I pretty much stick to long and epic series.

I will read stuff like R.A. Salvatore Forgotten Realms Drizzt Do'Urden books where there is like a ton of them or like Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth series. Of course Stephen Kings Dark Tower series is what set me on this path when I was in high school, but as a side note that also started an unfortunate habit of starting unfinished series that haunts me to this day. Shout out to Patrick Rothfuss and George RR Martin on that front.

So anyway the stuff I read would have to be a season long series, not just a movie. Way way too much stuff to show and would mostly likely need multiple seasons to be done right.

With that being said my pick would probably surprise many of my closest friends. I don't like military stuff generally and avoid it. Even being in the military myself I just am not overly fond of war movies or books. However there is an exception to this. A series I started reading when I was in the Navy and got hooked on it because although it deals with some war stuff it is primarily about the lives of the people and how they all interconnect with each other and there are quite a few characters. It is one of the best series I have ever read and I reread it yearly and have been doing so for 25 years or so.

W.E.B. Griffin " Brotherhood of War " series. Absolutely amazing series about the careers of multiple Army officers from the 2nd World War to the Vietnam War. Covers the 40's, 50's and 60's and the development of Army Aviation and Special Forces. It is seriously really really good and I think it would make an excellent show series.

I haven't actually read them yet (lack of time), but I would love to see something like The Culture series as a TV series.
The Iain Banks novels? I'd love that. They can also do more of his non sci fi too. The Wasp Factory, and The Bridge especially (The Crow Road was done really well).

I'd like to see some James Ellroy done right. American Tabloid would make a brilliant limited series.

I love these books, and they're definitely way too weird to be done properly by Hollywood.
The Darth Bane Trilogy, but then again, I don't trust star wars. Would make a good show though.

I actually don't think it's a great fit for the silver screen, but I'd be willing to give it a try in case I'm wrong. It was a nifty book that was more about an idea than a conventional story. A question instead of an answer, if you will. Good read for sure.

More cyberpunk shit like Ubik or Neuromancer. Pr oper Lovecraft adaptation would also be nice.

Well, I think there's some things from Lovecraft's work that can be left out. You know, like his extreme even-by-the-standards-of-his-time racism.

I would love a tv miniseries based on either Elizabeth Chadwicks trilogy on Eleanor of Aquitaine or Sharon Kay Penmans 5 book Plantagenets series.

Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett would make a really fun good movie if done properly . *Death stares at that abomination of a mini-series from a few years ago*

I doubt the people who most need to understand the message would get it but I'd still love to see a good rendition of Vimes and co (and Vetinari! Love that magnificent bastard) on the big screen and I feel the book is just the right length for a strong 90-100 minute film (and the dragon parts would be best served by a film budget rather than a TV show. While plenty of the City Watch books can be handled by TV budgets this is the one that really can't if you want to do it faithfully).

Going Postal is another really good Discworld novel for the big screen too.

For more typical fiction I'd want something one-and-done rather than part 1 of a series. I'm a pretty massive Cosmere fan but I'd stick to something like The Emperors Soul or Tress of the Emerald Sea .Maybe Alloy of Law from MIstborn era 2, while it has connections to other novels it's also a really good standalone action novel that'd showcase the Mistborn magic systems well.

dragonlance chronicles tbh, I feel strongly theyd rival greats like LOTRs if done right. Incredible cast of characters, some real stakes, huge world building, and relatively tight pacing.

but I see no way at all they do it without butchering it. Tasslehoff Burrfoot for instance is a GOAT character but without being inside his head theres no way youre pulling off that character in film.
