One of the worst parts about this is that it's not even in service of great games. A decent indie developer could make a better game with those traits than any recent Pokmon release. But nope, can't have that. This is just protecting mediocrity.
Exactly. If no one is allowed to make anything remotely resembling Pokemon, then Nintendo and Gamefreak don't have to put any actual effort into their Pokemon games because "what else are you gonna play?"

Unfortunately, it says right in the article that this patent was granted in the United States. This isn't just about Japan anymore.
