I find it actually kind of funny that you have to jump through all those hoops and obstacles to find what seem like common every day items, but contextually important enough to solve cryptic puzzles.
that was in the original
when im talking bloat and padding
the game is more than twice as long as the original
but the story is the same length
so you go much longer stretches of time with no story progression
areas are alot bigger you have to run to more places to get more things
imagine if for say a RE1 remake they made the mansion have more floors and added like 8 more keys and various other puzzle items
but very few new cutscenes or story it was just you running arround the mansion for a longer period of time
