I thought it was a nothingburger but the amount of Indie games getting last minute delays because of Silksong is staggering
If you read this signature, then that meant that I had control of what you read for 5 SECONDS!!
Silksong before GTA6 is actually crazy
Sack to crack, going to town
Delaying because you don't want to go up a higher hyped game makes sense.

Whining about it publicly is a douche move.
Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

I'm having flashbacks to all the devs crying about BG3 making them look like lazy incompetent middle schoolers.

Why? Are they not businesses in competition with each other? Is McDonalds expected to give fair warning to Burger King if they want to launch a new sandwich?

McDonald's: McRib is back.
Burger King: HOW DARE YOU

Nah, this is an L take for sure. Team Cherry are making a good game, not swamping us in endless hype and giving the game to fans and kickstarter contributors ahead of games industry journalists. The game costs $20.

Honestly this is the kind of thing we should be celebrating, not getting pissy about because it doesn't follow IGN's release schedule or whatever.

I have a thought for the game industry, and especially indie devs.

Instead of blaming Team Cherry for your own bullshit timetables, maybe actually keep your game in development until it's truly and honestly done.

No Early Access

No Backer Copies.

No Pre-Production Marketing.

Actually just focus your efforts on developing the product you want to sell, then put it forward and do any marketing needed just before going gold. We don't need to know you have a concept of an idea, we need to know your idea has been realized.

Ernie.
"It's rude to release a more anticipated title at the same time as my less anticipated title" is a very entitled stance to take.

Not that I can't relate to why they feel bad about it, but it isn't Team Cherry's fault lol.
Up to no good searching for tomorrow
Misunderstood when you're headed straight into the flames
Based on the article, it doesnt really seem like developers are upset at the sudden release date. If anything Polygon is more upset and trying to put the respond on Team Cherry for not giving advanced notice.

Im sorry, this game has been in development for 70 years and theyre mad that its release announcement was too sudden lmao

On the one hand I don't believe Team Cherry owes anyone to announce their game early. They took the time and waited until the game was 100% ready and after 7 years they weren't going to make their fans wait for ages after an official announcement. They did good by fans and what they did was legit great.

But I do sort of get why indie devs will be frustrated. Team Cherry is already established hy Hollow Knight and they are already set. They know this game is gonna sell another 10+ Million copies unless it's absolutely awful. For a lot of these indie games they don't have this leeway, and now any game for the next 3 months is going to be battling for news coverage and play hours with easily the most anticipated indie game of i would argue all time for the next 3-4 months.

Unfortunately that's the business. Same thing happens in literally every entertainment media, just have to adjust and hope the date change is worth it. Better to move than have a Horizon situation.

I second this. Wanna know why they're gonna sell 10+ million copies?

They don't dick their fans around (yes, ypu could say a seven year wait is dicking us around, but I believe they wanted to make the game great instead of releasing trash.

And I'll take a two week window for launch any day of the week. Now I don't have to sift through garbage articles and potential spoilers. Day one buy, and I've got the weekend off. It's about to be liiiiiiiiiit!

They were objectively cooking those 7 years though. They wanted to make an experience that would live up to the hype. They weren't doing countless side projects and public appearances while claiming to work, they were actually working on it.
