I closed the car door on it, and 60 seconds later into my sister driving, I had to have her pull over and the tip is mildly rough. Does anyone know if it's still safe to use? I'd rather not buy a new wire unless I absolutely have to.

I think less water and more the door closed on it would do damage

Also compare the possible damage to the charging port of your device versus the price of a new cable

As long as theres no splinters/loose fragments on it still and no sharp edges its probably fine but I'd get a replacement cable soon regardless.
