I decided to give Mafia 3 another try.

I tried it back in 2023 but only played it for a couple of hours and never went back to it.

I started a new game since I wasn't very far into it. It's definitely "clicking" with me a lot more this time. I really like the presentation of the game with the interviews and the Senate hearings mixed in with the story.

The use of iconic music is really good too. Not just that game has a good soundtrack, but I love how they use the music well during certain scenes.

I plan on doing the same. Never really started it. Doing my research so as to approach it in a way where I mix up the redundant side missions so as to hopefully not have it go as stale as quickly as many describe.
You can also break it up a bit with the DLC, all of which are great too imo.

It's a surprisingly well put together game and probably has the best licensed soundtrack of all time. It's just the ubisoft gameplay that really brings it down.

It's a shame that the repetitive gameplay brought the game down so much. The story and characters are fantastic. That scene after the prologue ends, is one of my favorite scenes of all time in gaming. Chills every time.

Game gets shit on way too much. Like Im a huge Mafia fan and sure I enjoy the linear story nature of the first couple but I thought the open world being more than just a point A to B in Mafia 3 and actually feeling like a world was a nice experience. Game was fun and Lincoln Clay was a great character.

Cool setting, LOVE the time period and of course killer soundtrack like the previous game. Taking over the city has some repetitive nature to it but fuck thats tons of games I play and love. Still enjoy them. Mafia III was great.

I always liked it and never found it that repetitive. Maybe just a little. I enjoyed taking over rackets and being a one man army killing mob guys. It was fun doing it either guns blazing or stealthy. The Mafia games always excelled at writing and characters and with 3 it was no different. Even the murderous bigot villain has a moment where you almost sympathize with him. Then there's the atmosphere and setting. The music helps a lot with that, but they did a real good job with the world building. It really does feel like you're in 60s era New Orleans with the good (the cars/music) and the bad (the racism and segregation).

They went back to the more story based style with The Definitive Edition and The Old Country, which is cool, but I hope we see more of 3's style in future games.

No.

The newest one is Mafia: The Old Country which just came out a week or so ago. I already played and finished it.

I decided to go back and play Mafia 3 since it's the only one I haven't finished.

The story is great, the locale and characters are good, and the gameplay's solid. The gameplay loop, however, brings down the whole experience. I didn't mind it much since all the other elements were good, but I don't fault anyone who disliked it.

All they had to do was make the shooting good and the stealth/melee mechanics good but they really half-assed both. Shooting is super plinky and there's clunky aim assist that you can't turn off on PC because it turns itself back on. Enemies are braindead when you crouch and go around noisily killing them one by one in stealth.

Driving is great, graphics are great, story and characters are decent even if the interviews wear thin around the 1000th clip of "that boy just really took a dark turn one day and killed 590,000 people." Best video game soundtrack of all time. ALL TIME.
I will now sell five copies of the Three EP's by the Beta Band.
Such a great game. I really love the animations and driving. It really was a fun romp.

I'm liking it so far.

It starts a bit slow, but when it gets going IT GETS GOING.

The game is also really pretty.

I enjoyed it, although it's pretty short and very linear.
