I cannot get into Sleep Token

multiple people in my life have gone down the rabbit hole of this band and its fandom. these are adults in their 30s with white-collar careers and they devolve into a screeching tumblr tween over this band.

i have listened to their most recent 2 albums three or four times. i think the word i'd use to describe it is "forgettable". there is nothing immediately offensive or off-putting about their music, but for the life of me i cannot conjure any of their songs in my head no matter how many times i listen. i draw a total blank.

i am aware that this is Just my Opinion and that other people's opinions are their opinions and akshually my opinion is worth less than their opinion because i am daring to share mine and that opinions are like assholes and also how dare i share my opinion because by sharing my opinion i am somehow inherently stating it as fact unless i do this fucking miserable gamefaqs equivalent of a prayer before sharing a single solitary thought in my head or anything that could even conceivably be twisted into a blanket statement by a severely dopamine-deficient and crusty individual.

there, everyone stuck in 2003 is hopefully satisfied and we can actually stay on topic.

thats ok, because theyre bad

I think they're okay. The sudden genre shifts throughout most of their songs can, at times, make remembering a specific song next to impossible for me, though. Their latest album doesn't do much for me, but This Place Will Become Your Tomb, and Take Me Back To Eden are good albums.

i'm no gatekeeper but yeah i also agree theyre more a hard rock/rock style band, I would have to listen to more to give any kind of unbiased opinion and i dont wanna do that

Unless someone who DOES like sleep token wants to rec me like 3 songs

All the worst elements of pop music with none of the professional songwriter magic. TOTAL CRAP.

I made a topic about this band and people who don't call them "real metal" a little while back while never having heard their newest album. Just listening to portions of it made me gag.

I think back to the disgusted reaction I had when I first heard Heavy by Linkin Park, and other songs from One More Light. But the difference is, despite the jarring genre shift, there was actual meaning behind those songs. This is just mindless poppy trash.

Sucks because the older stuff sounds alright, but I suppose that's not exactly what headlines British music festivals.

The closest comparison I can think of is Imagine Dragons, except ST hit the distortion pedal during choruses.

Also I don't think we need to disparage anyone's looks ITT. We're all gamefaqs users in 2025, let's not chip our glass house >_>

Anyways, I think the discussion of whether they qualify as "metal" is kind of a red herring. Whatever genre you call this, it's incredibly unremarkable is my main point.

I've tried getting into these guys a few times too. Never clicked.

Its funny, I love a gimmick band, or ones thats have a distinct look. Ghost are one of my favourite bands.

But these guys just dont do it for me. They have a cool look, the music is just meh

There are definitely some older tracks that are good, but the new one is absolute trash tbh
