I'm gonna try to gateway-drug myself into liking modern Pokemon with Omega Ruby

I probably qualify as a "genwunner" in a loose sense.
I love gens 1 and 2, enjoyed 3 and 4, and basically fell off from there.
I thought the 2 hours of Pokemon Sun that I forced myself to play were some of the most unenjoyable gaming I've ever experienced.
I find the culture around Pokemon GO and the TCG to be weird and annoying and uninteresting.
I vastly preferred the old Sugimori watercolor art style and whine about it to anyone who will listen.

I woke up this morning hoping they'd finally announced rereleases of the older games and instead got Dragonite with ear-wings.

It's become clear to me that
  1. There is zero chance the series ever trends back towards the way I liked it - the new games absolutely print money on what appears to be a low budget
  2. A lot of this is just old man yelling at cloud
So, I went out and bought Omega Ruby. I figured maybe replaying a gen I like, on the more modern presentation style of the series, might loosen me up to trying the other games I let pass me by. I'm aware that even this game is a decade old but we gotta start somewhere. Already picked Mudkip and got past the first gym.
Chickens and cheese.
Modern Pokemon is Scarlet/Violet, not OmegaRuby.

I hope you like it though. OmegaRuby is a great game.

Alola games are notorious for being cutscene heavy, or at least feeling that way.
scarlet was my biggest switch 1 purchase regret

Modern pokemon games are good, but characters are too nice and wholesome all the time. I'd like a return to the rival who wants to crush you, not support you.

what happened to "smell ya later?"
No sig
I do think OR/AS are the best games in the series, but some of that stems from personal bias toward gen 3 and the various online features that are no longer usable. And that isn't to say they're flawless, mind you. But they do a lot of neat things I like very much while still being faithful to the originals. If you liked Ruby, I think you'll like OR~

yeah they're by far the heaviest on handholding and there being a ton of dialogue, no other game in the series even comes close

does it count how on SV's DLC you basically break a nice kid into becoming an ass that REALLY wants to crush you

My love for the series ended with the official games and was revived by hacks and fan games
The Legend is True!
NGL, also as a boomer genwunner.... I loved Violet. It was perfectly janky, just like RBY.

You're spitting about the watercolor art tho, vastly superior.
Your memes.... end here.
I am kind of excited for the upcoming Legends game honestly.
Scarlett was some of the most fun I've had since gen 5. 6 was a lot of fun, but I think a big part of that was that my wife and I (at the time we were just dating) were playing together, building teams together. But the actual game itself was kind of meh. 7 was okay ish, 8 is the only time I didn't finish a Pokemon game.
We all ate the biscuits, Fighter. We can all see through time.
You should celebrate being free from the grasp of modern Pokmon, not trying to dive into it.

I can only replay Red so many times. Really wish we'd gotten one more gen on the GB or GBA.

Play Black or White then.

I don't get this. You feel the newer games aren't progressing enough so you get your fix by playing the older games with less qol?
Don't like it? Don't watch it. It's that simple

I don't think progress is my issue with the newer games. I just find them too focused on uninteresting plot and really dislike their overall presentation style. I'm trying to give them another chance because I'm completely burnt out on the entries I did enjoy and I think my gripes could be fade with more exposure.
Chickens and cheese.
I love ORAS. I used to think they were underrated, but they've been getting more love recently.
Also I'm a fan of the main postgame quest, curious what you'll think of it.
Let's-a go! Okey dokey!
