The suspense is killing me
made a brisket for july 4th. spent way to much for it, took hours to cook, came out perfectly. realized after it was all said and done that it really wasn't any better then a hamburger...
If your brisket was no better than a hamburger, it was not done perfectly.it was smokey, juicy, and delicious. everyone loved it. and the thing is i've had hamburgers that are equally smokey/juicy/delicious. overall its a waste of money when a good hamburger or well made steak are comparable, and those have the added benefit of coming medium rare.

While I enjoy brisket and even occasionally a nice steak I can understand this sentiment. I was never a big steak guy and will often opt for a burger over a steak. And if you give me a bratwurst I will 100% of the time take that over the best cut of beef you can offer.full agreement. i like a good medium rare steak but i will always pick a hamburger over one.
This topic is edging me man, I wanna know what the melon is like alreadyim sorry lmao, i keep checking but its still totally hard on the bottom. They make a big deal about eating it at its peak ripeness so i don't want to cut into it too early
How can you tell when it's perfect ripeness?so the website and pamphlet says to wait until the bottom is a little soft to the touch, and the ends of the stem are a bit wilted. It recommends 3-5 days after delivery (It was delivered on the 3rd)
Melon is the last fruit I'd pay extra for. Cantaloupe and green melon are just super meh even when you get a good one.

I honestly don't think there's enough headroom on a normal melon for one to taste like 50x as good.Yeah I get it lol, I don't expect the quality to scale with the price exactly. But I do expect it to be significantly better than a normal melon, and I'm willing to pay $180 to try it
Like, if you imagine an airplane that can fly at 30k feet, I mean, no matter what you do or how much money you spend, you're not going to fly a plane 50 times higher than that. There's just not that much sky.
Likewise, I just don't think the tasty scale even goes 50 times as high as a normal melon. I'm not convinced it even goes 3 times as high as a normal melon.
pretty sure most melons aren't climactic, so they dont ripen after picking. they soften up some, like a pineapple, but that's from rot and fermentation. they never become more sweet.Yeah, seems like letting it ripen is about letting it get real juicy and developing the flavor. It already has a super high sugar content, cuz they only let one melon develop per plant
Can you take more pictures of the packaging? I'm kind of fascinated with the presentation hereSorry I forgot to reply to this cuz my phone died yesterday right after I took the pics :p
I need melon soda:3

Hope the melon tastes good. It probably will though. Japan doesnt have any cheap fruit it seems, but what they do have it pretty tasty.
Heck I saw a regular watermelon going for $15 in a grocery store there. I only had fruit a few times ( lol at $3.50 for 3 strawberries) .
she looks soo gorgeous today ^_^Technically you'll be mutilating the corpse, it was slaughtered in Japan.

I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GET GREEN FLESH NETTED RIND MELONS IN THE US!! (I'VE TRIED!!)It depends on area, so we can't really tell you either. Like, the first thing that shows up for me is doordash ( https://www.doordash.com/products/mayan-pride-honeydew-melon/urpc_40c71283-de70-4b9b-9bec-1376cfc5a47c?gQT=1 ) but with no location your best bet would be to just shop around.
yeah though lol
They sell Galia melons at H mart if you have any near you. I dunno if they taste exactly like the Japanese ones but they're green flesh & netted rind all the same.oh huh, they do look pretty different tbh, but i'd like to try one sometime

that's so bizarre, they're calling that a honeydew, but i'm pretty sure honeydew are known for having a smooth waxy rind. idfk what that is, melon naming conventions are so inconsistentIt's because the most common way to get a honeydew is with a smooth rind, but that isn't really all that much of a requirement. The rind texturing was purely something that was a part of where you came from: America specifically bred them to have a smooth rind. It's the same reason that the Japanese ones have a very impressive netted texture compared to a lot of the others in that they put a lot of effort into breeding them into that way. It's all just a preference thing, and with the English-speaking part of the world being used to the American melons that is what people in said locations will immediately default to.

Fuck my appointment ended early and I still have to wait 40 mins for a ride back. I want my melon so badLmao. That sounds hilarious. Not $500 worth of hilarious but still
