Damn, I forgot about this I'm gonna have to get on it.

I saw a post on social media earlier this week suggesting that, seeing Netflix capitalizing on Squid Game's success, the creator chose this bleak ending as a "fuck you".

Which is to say that the point is that one man can't defeat the system, no matter his ideals. To defeat the Games is to defeat the system that led to the creation of the Games. As long as unfettered capitalism exists, the Games will exist. The best one can hope for is small victories, like the saving of Jun-hee's baby, Gyeong-seok's escape, and the Korean facility being destroyed.

Furthermore, In-ho was "infected" by Gi-hun's humanity, as he showed by following up on Hwang and Gi-hun's daughter.

Small victories, which is all individuals can hope for attacking such a system. That's what I believe was being said.
Okay, that makes more sense why that was the show's ending. I still don't like how bleak it was, but I get where they're coming from.
"Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat." - F. Scott Fitzgerald
i dunno man, if they made an ending where the good guys show up, stop the remaining games in time and rescue the remaining participants, a lot of people would criticize it more than the actual ending we got calling it way too safe and "Hollywoodesque" or something...

so yeah, in retrospect, i guess giving it a bleak end does make more sense. just like irl, you can obtain small victories but its hard to defeat the system as a whole.
A bleak ending is fine but they could have at least flushed out any of the characters they built up or made even the last game between people we give a s*** about

I feel like they've been doing this the entire series. Any interesting or cool characters get unceremoniously killed without more fleshing out because that's how the Games go.

or made even the last game between people we give a s*** about
Well that's what we got in S1. Two people facing off who still are trying to cling to their humanity, with a personal relationship between the characters on top of that. I don't think we needed that again. This time it's a horrible battle of survival against overwhelming odds in "piece of shit" territory when you're trying to protect a baby. Also I was interested to see if Myung-gi (333) would have a turnaround or not, because he was teetering and tottering the whole way through. There was a payoff in some sense to have him finally plunk down squarely in one corner.

Didn't like it. Detective brother plot stayed stupid. Ending sucked ass lol capitalism wins now go watch as we milk this franchise for America.
You've buttered your last biscuit, pardner.
The final villain was very weak. Though really, there wasnt anyone who I felt would work well as a final boss in this one.

I meant the death games being put to an end and the bad guys getting their comeuppance.

The facility was destroyed.

But yeah I was kind of hoping for some kind of Tarantino ending.

Also I disagree that there were no crowd pleasing moments.

Park Gyeong-seok escapes. No-eul finds her daughter in China. In-ho gets proven wrong in the end.

Im surprised by the negativity here. I enjoyed it all the way through.
Hyun-ju and the mom were probably my favorite characters from s2/3.

On the flip side, the pregnant girl was kind of flat with "I'm pregnant" being most of her plot/personality. I guess she was more of a driver to get the baby/333 plot going but eh.

I just finished. I thought it was alright and think it would have been better as a one off. I got so angry with the introduction of the baby. Characters claimed to be parents and kept pushing forward to the end even when an innocent child was introduced. I guess that's kind of the point because all those left were past the point of caring for anyone besides themselves. Im just surprised noone even cared with that introduction.

The ending was about what I expected. I figured the detective might have got some proof and killed by others higher up that were taking some bribes. But he really went nowhere.
Trying is the first step towards failure, so just dont give it a shot and you cant dissapoint.
This show reminds me of The Last Jedi in that there was build up for stuff to happen and then...nothing. Let me just say this that I did find Season 2 to have more interesting character dynamics and dialogue than the first season and I liked the games better in season 2 and 3 than I did in Season 1. I also liked that they didn't just rinse and repeat season 1 all over again...but I'm just kind of unsatisfied with how this all "concluded". I liked what they were going for, but the ending didn't land well imo.

Yep, that's how I took it. Understanding that the whole point of the show is looking at real human beings as if they were just statistics, write-offs, or "horses" as the show is more upfront about. This is just taking that to the logical extreme.

I mean because of him the entire Korean facility had to be scrapped, so that's SOMETHING.

I mean "lol capitalism wins" is literally the subtext of the show.

That's the point. It's saying this is a bad thing.
^ Hey now that's completely unfair!

Are we forgetting that the majority of the players are shitty people?
Don't like it? Don't watch it. It's that simple

All the females on the contestant sides die before reaching the end. Ends up being men with all the voting power. Would have been nice to show the ugly side of both.
Above all things, never be afraid. The enemy who forces you to retreat is himself afraid of you at that very moment.
Annoying diviner lady shoulda made the end instead of old ass dude (who shouldn't have passed the jump rope game cuz no way was he jumping for that long without collapsing). Druggie #1 also shoulda made the end so he could battle it out with Druggie #2 because Druggie #2 was just...kind of the designated scapegoat at the end.

Just finished it myself. I thought season 3 was very well done. The ending was actually a lot happier than I was expecting given how bleak this series is. I don't know what people we're expecting. Detective gets there and saves all the likeable characters? It just won't match the vibe.

And I'm so glad the Gi-Hun becomes the new Front man fan theory didn't pan out. That shit would've been stupid.
You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.
