What sucks is that the Defiant sort of sucked in First Contact.

The Worf Effect
Literally since Worf was in command of the Defiant then.
Insert some witty line here
I find it interesting how much the Borg influenced Deep Space Nine, despite only appearing in the first episode. Being such a big part of Sisko's backstory, the reason for the Defiant, and while I don't believe it's ever actually stated I like the idea that the reason the Federation was able to take part in such a large scale war was because of them increasing ship production because of the Borg threat (I know the real world reason is just advancing effects allowing for them to have more ships on screen).

Yeah, but it did give us the first of a few great comic deliveries by Michael Dorn in the movie.

Little?

An opinion does not turn into a fact simply because the person holding it feels strongly about it.

And then we got the Defiant, designed to fight the Borg. And it rules!
Or as SFDebris calls it, Benjamin Sisko's Mothafuckin' Pimp Hand.

Let me put it in perspective for you: Picard faced the Borg, and after it was done ruining his life, he stood in his office and drank Earl Grey. Sisko faced the Borg and after it was done ruining his life, he fumed in an escape-pod; then went off to design a ship whose only purpose is to kill Borg. It's a set of guns strapped to an engine. Then he called it Defiant, a name that practically shakes its fist at the Borg. That was his second choice, Starfleet felt that the "USS Ben Sisko's Muthafuckin Pimp Hand" was too long.

What I also find funny is that DS9 was forced to introduce the Maquis to set up Voyager and then did waaaaaaay more with the concept than Voyager ever did.

nah, it did exactly what it was designed for. There was only one ship that was designed to win a direct conflict with the Borg, Voyager .. Seriously though, the Defiant wasn't really some silver bullet. The Federations fleet was basically the equivalent of Musket ball rounds and the Defiant was rifling.
This dude when they engage the warp core.

I love the call back in DS9.

So, just finished Picard S01. Lots of mixed feelings. I'm glad to see the TNG timeline progress, but I hate the acting/story decisions. I really languished through the first few episodes. I was really worried they went Halo with this show(they did but nowhere near that lvl). I actually liked much of the new crew and the old crew showing up. Kind of wish these things were separate shows. Overall it's still on the positive side, but really hope the rest of the series improves.

If they ever have Eldar in the 40K show they need to cast the actress for Narissa
No matter which Star Trek you're into, I'm pretty sure we all can agree that TOS S1E14 Balance of Terror is incredible

Picard season 1 was pretty bad. I don't have any issue with the cast. I think they're all good and do the best they can with what they're given. But I definitely know what you mean about the story. It's a mess.

S2 isn't much better. S3 is where it gets good. That season leans a lot harder on nostalgia/callbacks, but even beyond that the way it handles the characters is a lot better. Even the new characters it introduces are quite good.

I really need to finish ENT but I may just rewatch DS9 real soon since I absolutely love it and it has been a few years.

Skip the very last episode of ENT.

If someone's going to watch every other episode of Enterprise they might as well watch the final one.

But that said, there's a good reason a lot of fans consider Terra Prime to be the real series finale.
