I found a Picross or whatever it's called for "Bomb" which damages all enemies when a character dies. Now I can BUY "Auto Death", which kills yourself on battle start?

Is there a viable strategy where you just start battle as a self-nuke and then you revive them? XD

Oh yes, there are funny applications for Auto Death.

There's several "on death" effects you can stack to start every fight with massive buffs and you'll later get a self-revive picto which negates the death effect OR you can just have two party members kill themselves then go to town with your one remaining guy that is completely whacked out with "while fighting alone" pictos that boost their stats to insane levels.

That's a popular way of grinding or just quickly going through areas clearing out trash almost instantly.

Expedition 44 decided to try to disguise themselves AS Nevron's, literally wearing their carcass as like, a cover. That did not work however as it seems the Nevron's can detect each other based on chroma, rather than what they look or smell like? Expedition 44 was basically wiped out trying this approach. =/

Fuck that Mime in Yellow Harvest! I beat it, but DAMN man. I couldn't get the timing down to parry the hammer combo, had to just dodge that one.

A THIRD EXPEDITION JOURNAL!? Expedition 59. Seems one of them had the bright idea to EAT a Nevron. Everyone was puking up a storm and Julien mentions something about them feeling better with some mushroom broth...

... didn't a different journal talk about someone eating mushrooms and it killing them? Yeah, 66 mentioned that. So I'm assuming 59 didn't find 66's journal. Ooops

Ohhhh, defeated Glaise second attempt. That was a fun fight!

Maelle had another nightmare. It looked like there were almost shadowy versions of everyone and Maelle was between them, and then "Gustave", a bit older but not the OLD MAN version of Gustave (again my theory) like, stabbed her in the Manor that I found her in? Weird.

Esquie also said something weird. He said it's been a while since he last spoke with humans and we are much smaller than he remembered. Gustave asked him when the last time he spoke with a human was and he said it was with his best friend! Then Gustave was like, "Isn't Francois your best friend?" and all Esquie says is "Yes"

... I swear, humans are being turned into Nevrons, Gestrals, and all sorts of crazy shit.

Another visit from White Haired Man and the Masked Woman, approaching Maelle while she sleeps.

The Masked Woman rambles about how she envies "those who cannot see" and something about how we are absolved of sin? Seems that they exist "in the ink" and are resisting from that position. That seems to suggest that maybe Nevrons and whatnot are trying to fight against The Paintress as well, and humans are getting in THEIR way? Like somehow we are both getting in each other's way while The Paintress fucks us all over? But humans "cannot see", so it's kinda impossible for us to work together? The fuck is going on?

Oh cool, I just got the Professional Trophy for defeating a boss without taking damage. It was the Chromatic Bruler or whatever on the world map. It only ever did the ground pound attack which I just had to jump and counter each time. Combined with some big hits, it went down easy.

I got to the Stony Cliffs... and Esquie just fucking OHKO'd a giant Nevron. But he is apparently lazy and doesn't wanna get his damn Florrie for himself. -_-

Esquie needs his rocks to be able to help. You can't expect him to do all that heavy lifting without his rocks.

Journal for Expedition 78.

Seems this was a bit of a breaking point for humanity, or at least Lumiere. Maxance speaks of the fact that the 78th stole airships seemingly from "The Council" in Lumiere. The Council was timid and wanted to try and figure out WTF was going on from Lumiere rather than going to the Continent. The 78th stole airships from them to come here. As Maxance rightfully points out, "Under their control, our people are condemned to a slow inevitably extinction"

Lisette lost Simone here to a "white-haired bastard". She captured one of them and said, "She looks human, but I know she's a monster. She refuses to speak, but I'll make her talk. And then I will FEED her to a Nevron. Then the Paintress can take me, I don't care, nothing matters. I WILL HAVE JUSTICE"

So other Expeditions ran into the "White Haired" people too.

Ran into another one of those ashy "Young Boy" characters. They always give really cryptic information. I kinda love it. This one said that "this place" (unsure if it is the Continent, the world post-schism) was supposed to be beautiful and wonderful for everyone, but it isn't anymore. He said that isn't like "her" and that The Paintress used to like... love him and play with him. She doesn't anymore and has more important people in her life, more important things to do. And he has no concept of why.

That's kinda sad when who is essentially your God just kinda... discards you for other creations that are more deadly and terrifying than fun and beautiful.

I finished a few days ago but its still been on my mind a lot, Im like this close to replaying it. Been a while since I had a game move me like this.

Expedition 50's Journal was also dropped here!

50 did use the Ferris Wheel as their big idea, but it was smashed up by the Serpent of the Sea. After the destruction of the Wheel, they ran out of food, clean water, and had no way to fix the Wheel at all. Lucile found contentment however after it was clear they could no longer complete their mission. She wondered in her writings about what it would have been like to grow up outside the Dome, live amongst the Nevrons, maybe achieve a form of peace with them or prosper alongside them.

Interesting, as we made it further down into the area, I found an entrance into the Manor again. I kinda figured this would be a little hub that would have multiple entrance points and whatnot. This one just had a room that had a new thing for Maelle to wear.

I was literally in the cut scene at what I think is the end of act 1 and my power went out due to a storm.

Right when White Haired Man tried to like... push Maelle's soul from her body and the unknown voices were talking to her?

That fight was pretty easy, I'm not too concerned.

Power back on, beat the fight with Lampmaster and uh... had the encounter with White Haired Man.

I love that Gustave here is being so brave. He had his moments of doubt and fear and whatnot, but against this impossible foe? Fuck it, leave my sister alone, I'm gonna slow you down, even if it's for a second.

Gustave uses his special arm and Overload against White Haired Man, it simply knocks him back and the arm is like... dropped in the process. "For those who come after, right?" He rushes for another attack and is defeated. WHM says it is a kindess to stop them now and then when he tries to like remove her soul from her body, we hear an argument between what I imagine is the Paintress and a male voice... about whether or not Maelle should stay or go home.

"This won't make sense to you now, but we both want what's best for our families"

WTF?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

... Gustave? A different Gustave? He stops WHM from fucking with Maelle and seems to be his equal? They have some conversation. They know each other. WHM talks about how he wants his family reunited or something like that, and it seems Maelle has something to do with that. The Stranger then points up towards Alicia or Alice or whoever and says that he has his family. WHM seems pissed that he brought her but the Stranger just shrugs and says she made that decision and that "he knows the rules about them together". He then tells WHM that "The Paintress will stop painting"

Maelle hops down, leaving Gustave's body behind and the arm. Back at Camp, Esquie gives Maelle the biggest hug before falling asleep. T_T

The Stranger then shows up and hands the arm to Sciel and Lune, apologizing that he couldn't save Gustave. Rightfully so, they're both like, "Who the fuck are you and what the hell is happening? How do you have an Expeditioner uniform?" The Stranger says that he is also an Expeditioner... from Expedition Zero. Sciel and Lune again are like, the fuck? The Stranger explains that from Expedition Zero, some of their members simply stopped aging and the Gommage does not work on them for that reason. The White Haired Man is Renoir, their Commander. He explains that Renoir turned on humanity as he see's his immortality as a gift from the Paintress and he wants to live forever. You need to kill The Paintress before Renoir can be killed.

He then offers to join with them, since he does NOT like the idea of living forever, burying friends and humanity and all that stuff. He tells them his name is Verso, and Maelle walks up to him and is like, "So, we gonna go kill The Paintress or what?"

Verso and Renoir look so much like Gustave. I wonder if they are all related? I'm gonna buy the idea now that they are not alternate versions OF Gustave, but I reserve the right to change my mind on that since they are purposefully made to look similar to one another.

Huh, Verso and Esquie have a Relationship Level? I like that they are old pals. It would make sense that an immortal would make friends with another immortal. Intriguing dialog, it seems that Verso and Esquie have a secret between them and Esquie is determined not to break his promise to keep it to himself.

Again it feels like Verso and Gustave are the same person somehow. Also, Esquie knows about how Sciel hates the water and doesn't know how to swim. What if somehow everyone has a doppleganger from Expedition Zero?

I just got to the point where you go in caves with the giant rock enemies. Did you notice in the tutorial, some boxes are labelled "1920"?

Just fun trivia and combat is reqlly fun because the pictos can be pretty creative and has some interesting combos. I love the roulette one, sometimes my characters can hit up to 9999 damage lol

Made it to the Crushing Caverns and defeated the Sapling and its ambush! Fucker!

Finding Journal 45 in here it is Cassandra who simply tells us about the ambush. Her group was crushed and she would have been but was pushed out of the way, but her legs were crushed in the process. "If anyone finds this journal, do not enter this cave, the Nevron inside will crush you"

Damn

Made my way over to the White Tree and found the music item there and the Journal from Expedition 36. It is a poem from Isabelle which I imagine will mean more to me later... or it's just a lovely little poem that someone wrote as they were stuck at the White Tree with no hope of moving on.

Swimming doesn't get you anywhere except for some chromatic Nevrons until later. I suggest proceeding with the plot

I DID find another door to the Manor, which got me an upgrade. So that's fun.

I also found a Chromatic Nevron that hit the party once for 3000 damage. That was less fun. XD

Edit - I also found Sprong. Less fun still!

Made it to the Stone Wave Cliff Caves and it took me a few attempts, but I did defeat the Chromatic Hexga. Lousy fucker! After defeating Hexga, we find the journal of Expedition 54, well, theoretically. Written by a man named Constantine, he says that Lumiere operates a "certain way", and if you question the Council, they question you back... and push too hard for change and you end up on the next Expedition. As such, nothing ever changes, they send the "dissenters" out to die and the status quo continues! His final written words?

"At least out here, I don't have to pretend anymore. I don't bear the others any ill will. They have good intentions. But I'm not here for the Paintress. I'm here to build a new Lumiere"

Found Journal 64 as well. Ben is the writer. It seems their gimmick was to use radio signals to break into smaller groups and stay in contact with each other... "But it seems someone is using our radios against us. How do they even know our codes? Nobody's used them since the Fracture"

... oooof. Renoir clearly has himself a radio and clued into what they were doing and hunted down the groups one by one. =/

Idc about rhe ugly bikini but i beat it out of spite. Also somehow liniting my fps to 30 fps somehow helps, idk. Maybe the speed is tied to the frame? Like old games? The devs is definitely trolling.

The first platforming wasn't this bad lmao like you set up your camera angle right then it becomes manageable. But yeah, i'm doing them out of spite.
