On my way to see it right now. My expectations were high because I absolutely loved Past Lives, but recently a lot of coworkers and other people have said this movie is kind of boring and nowhere near as good or anything similar to Past Lives. So Im keeping my expectations in check.I did like Past Lives more (9 / 10)
There is no writing trope I hate more than love trianglesBut there is a definite point for it in this movie. Also, it does happen in real life
Really hope that doesn't include a character that's super familiar with age of consent laws.Lol
I thought it was a Netflix movie.I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. It is by a acclaimed filmmaker.
I have no idea what that is supposed to mean.Think Hallmark but a higher budget.
Think Hallmark but a higher budget. But that is completely wrong for this movie
The movie brings up a serious topic in a certain part of the movie and then kinda tries to go back to a little jokey. Nope.I don't get this complaint. You can't have serious topics and also make jokes?
i saw the trailer and she's like.. dating 2 guys? Is it really good? Might give it a go. Not really into rom coms.I typically see 2 a week in the theater, sometimes more, but it averages to 2.

Man I got couple of movies to catch up on:
-Mission Impossible - was waiting for my brother for 3 weeks, but he can't seem to schedule with me
-How to Train Your Dragon
Gonna skip Lilo and Stitch and Karate Kid Legends and watch it when they stream or something.
Wanna see 28 Years Later and Elio too
I don't get this complaint. You can't have serious topics and also make jokes?I think the movie did poorly in balancing the drama with the comedy. It just didn't transition as well for me.
But no, it's not truly a romcom
I think the movie did poorly in balancing the drama with the comedy. It just didn't transition as well for me.That's fair
Oh. So an acclaimed filmmaker cant have their movie made for Netflix. Is that it?!Of course they can, but the wording sounded like it was meant to be a dig, and was confirmed when he later called it a Hallmark movie
Between Bring Her Back, 28 years later, Ballerina, F1, my summer courses, Clair Obscur, new Hades II update, and this, I can't imagine anything else being at the absolute bottom of priorities on the totem pole than this movie.Have you not seen Ballerina and Bring Her Back yet then?
Have you not seen Ballerina and Bring Her Back yet then?I've been a tad busy.
I am seeing 28 Years Later tonight

Dakota Johnson's performance annoys me in that sometimes she's really good at certain scenes and other times it feels like she's just reading lines. Having her talk next to someone who is really good at acting does get distracting at times because of it.Completely agree with all of this.
With that said, I watched it with my wife and we both enjoyed it. I agree with your 8/10 score (wife gave it a 7/10 for some reason). Some dialogue was kind of awkward, but I do think this movie did handle its subject manner in a pretty mature and semi-real way. I do note that this movie primarily deals with people who have more than enough money to pay for match making services (and they're not cheap, as someone who works in Hollywood and have seen some of these personal expenses these actors pay for) and the pros and cons that can bring to the table. Also about romance and status and trying to quantify love into that mix. But mostly, I did like the fact that this isn't a depressing movie but rather a hopeful one. For these types of movies I greatly dislike it when it becomes depressing or to overly happy that I roll my eyes at the film, but I think this movie hit the right type of balance.
But yeah this movie is a step down from Past Lives, which I thought was amazing.
LolIm honestly not sure why it keeps being said that's a common argument here.... it really isnt.
My comment was more about the arguments about height and money.
Im honestly not sure why it keeps being said that's a common argument here.... it really isnt.Have you ever stepped into arguments about online dating here? People continually talk about how they are too short or don't make enough money to get dates.
Have you ever stepped into arguments about online dating here? People continually talk about how they are too short or don't make enough money to get dates.Online dating is brought up maybe here and there. Not nearly as much as you are making out to be.
Online dating is brought up maybe here and there. Not nearly as much as you are making out to be.I am not going to keep arguing with you just because you don't notice things. The topics are every couple weeks. You also made it seem like *I* bring up the tired old tropes about women. I combat them. I continually have to mention all my friends who are like 5'6 to 5'9 and have no issues with dating.
And even when its brought up, theres more issues brought up about the dating scene than what you just said (tired old tropes about women.) Including but not limited to some of the opposite side of tired old tropes about men.

Not really sure why you are arguing about this. It was also kind of a joke to bring attention to the movie, even if the joke is based on real discussions here.
I wouldnt call this an argument, but I cant help you feel its one.Okay, that's fair
I also didnt make it seem like you specifically are the ones bringing up tired old women tropes. I said when online dating topics are brought up, more than just the topic you specifically brought up is discussed. Other things are said including, but not limited to tired old tropes towards men is also said. I also maintain online dating topics here are not frequently all about "women only date tall rich guys."
Anyway, I pushed back on your joke, because the joke in itself is part of a larger issue in society right now.
