"You wanna go see X movie?"
"Who's in that?"

To me, this is like asking

"Do you want some fresh baked bread?"
"Does it mushroom over on the top?"

I dunno, maybe normies ask that one too.

People fall into fanboyism, cult personalities and idolization.

Or maybe they only find certain people entertaining like the most electrifying man in sports entertainment.
I don't know if it's "normie behavior" as much as it is just Hollywood culture.

Let cut the BS. Many movies live and die via their star power. Why do some actors get paid millions of dollars, and some get paid peanuts (possibly literally) because some actors names alone bring in an audience.

And this not new, this is not an evil of social media or Disney, it's been a thing since golden age of film, sometimes the Actor got top billing over the movie, sometimes an actor is put on the promotional material even if they only appear in a small part of the movie.

Like it or not many people go to movies based on the actors in them.

Robin: "Fight anyway!" (pb)
This can be valid. Some movies are just vehicles for burnt out actors and I avoid those. But if theyre asking because they only like movies with familiar faces then that limits a person imo
This is not our order. I am not your momma.

Audience is normal people and not whatever term tc sees themself as so then is it not the "normies" causing this?
It could be a thing where they don't remember the movie by name, but they recall that "the new movie with John Smith looked interesting" so when you say "oh, it has John Smith in it" then they'll remember that yes, they did want to see that new movie.

This sounds pretty reasonable, actually.

And with a little tweak, it could apply to the bread too. Maybe I'm not the one who baked it, but this bakery has one really good loaf that mushrooms at the top.

For some people, of they dont know what the movie is about, they'll be more inclined to say yes or no depending on who's in it.

I think it's a legacy of how movies used to be made and marketed.

You used to go and see the next big X movie. Replace X with tv star. The next Brad Pitt movie. The next Tom Hanks movie, the next Robin Williams movie, etc.

People don't really think in those terms anymore, which is why it feels weird now.

To be fair to the "normies"

There is also the factor that many actors take similar roles.

I don't think most people can name a single character Will Smith has played in a movie, but when you see Will Smith is in a movie, you kind of have an idea he's gonna play a Will Smith type character. If you like that type of character, there is a decent shot you will like that movie.

If you like the type of Romantic Comedies that Julia Roberts does, knowing Julia Roberts is in the movie probably tells you more than the title would. Even actors who are known for taking various types of roles like Leo or Johnny Depp, knowing they are in it tells you something about film.

I mostly go to movies if the story sounds interesting to me, but there are movies I gave a shot because "Oh he's in it, he's always good, I'll give it a shot."

I'm not disagreeing with you.... but Chris Pratt is giving him a run for his money.

I've asked that to clarify, since I remember casts more readily than a lot of things.

I've also watched movies exclusively to see one person's performance, and I've not watched movies to avoid one person's performance. I've done a decent bit of acting, it's one of my things.

As long as I can remember, my dad has always had a form of this. Absolutely not allowed to watch a movie with Jim Carrey in it (because he's Canadian and said something bout merica at some point), and for a long time it was Tom Cruise. Now he really likes watching Tom Cruise and is retroactively protesting Robert De Niro cuz he said something bad about Trump.

It's the dumbest shit to witness someone so worked up over who is/isn't in a movie. The movie itself could be great/terrible, but let's just fixate solely on the actor and potential politics.

Though that said, it does remind me of all the Ryan Gosling fans when they went to see The Place Beyond the Pines. They literally left/walked out of the theater after he dies in the movie.

Though yeah, there's some actors that tend to just suck the immersion away, such as the rock and some other actor I forget atm.
I don't know if I'm normie or not, but I don't really pay too much attention to movie titles. If you ask me if I'm interested in a movie then letting me know who's in it or what it's about may sway my opinion one way or another.

As for the food thing, yeah it's pretty normal to ask what's in the food you're about to eat.
Who is? I am!
