I don't remember where I learned this, it might have been from a Dead Meat video, but that scene was made because a kid won a contest and thought it would be a cool scene to add.

I remember the lady who wrote the book hated that they turned the movie into a generic slasher flick.

Which is funny because the book is instead a generic whodunit.
