It's a cultural phenomena that has amassed terabytes worth of rearrangements of the music of the Touhou video game series from various indie (doujin) groups

generally I find the remixes remix a but too hard and lose track of the originals, I mostly tend to like the game music better though there are some good ones

It has taken over a lot of Japanese rhythm games and Im not thrilled about it. I dont dislike it, but Im also tired of hearing Bad Apple in every music game

I'm tired of Bad Apple being the representation of Touhou fan music when there's literally only a single verse that it shares in common with the original game music which actually has a lot more segments than the fan MV one.

They might have the same origin, but the genres are very different.

Yeah Touhou doujin music can be any genre. That's on the artists.

I'd say at least 80% of the music is just arrangements of game music or adding lyrics.

It's still good though.

The original stuff, regardless of whether it matches the Touhou sound font, is always welcome.

Yeah. Just for a brief bit of history/context if you're interested:

Touhou is a fairly old series of indie shmup games. They were overwhelmingly popular around 2007-2012 ish, still well liked to this day just not to the same extent. Thanks to the general popularity, the quality of the game's OST, and the open attitude of the creator to fan-made works, they spawned a gigantic industry of indie remixers, from big-name bands to one-man things, many of which essentially got all their popularity from touhou and are still big today.

alstroemeria records, in the first post, pretty much just is inoffensive pop. they're a pretty popular group in the scene. but really the remixes span all sorts of genres even just looking among the more well-known groups

This isn't exactly my cup of tea, but I don't hate it either.
