The amount of years is rounded down to the nearest integer. For a 30 year old, this will be 2025 - 640 = travel to year 1385 .

If you are able to survive for 3 years, you will travel back to the present time that you left from and magically revert to the age that you were when you left, but keep all the knowledge you gained in those 3 years.

Can you do it?

  1. Your immune system will be magically updated to be equivalent with the average person's immune system of the time
  2. You will magically become fluent in the language of the first person you come across
  3. Your physical location upon traveling will be equal to roughly where you are right now, but in the past

I would probably just remove myself intentionally but the answer is probably death regardless of trying.

Actually thats well before insulin so the answer is absolutely death.

Uh... I'm not in good physical health. I'd probably find it hard to keep up with Tribal life assuming they accepted me and I survived long enough to meet anyone back in 1071.

I don't know what percentages are but aren't most of the members of this board North American?

I'm not entirely sure what was happening in 1166 in northeastern North America, but I think it's safe to say I would be fucked, one way or the other.

Assuming I did the math right I'd be going back to 812, which would probably make me the first white person the Chumash people ever meet. But yeah I'd die within the three years cause I've got some serious health issues.

The year 985.

I'll... probably survive.

With no records about me whatsoever, I'll probably be condemned to slavery and be forced to work like hell, but it'll probably be public/official slavery instead of private slavery, which was worse. Looking for silver linings here.

There also happens to be a terrible war coming in 993, but nobody will believe me and I'm gone in 988, so... eh.

Guess it depends on whether the Native Americans at the time welcome or kill me. I'm absolutely fucked if I lose my glasses or they break, though, I'm badly nearsighted.
Time is a funny thing, you know? I guess in the big picture of my life, you were only a blip. But oftentimes, those "blips" make the biggest impacts.
At the time and the place I would be at, there would be me, and wolves, and not much else. Humans mostly lived quite a distance south, and the precise area I'd be in was likely underwater.

While it would be cool to speak wolf, I don't like my odds.

If the Wild Thornberries taught me anything, it's that animals, surprisingly, are relatively rational with humans they can talk to.

Anything before like the 1500s means where I am now is 100% Native American territory, which is not good for me, being a white dude. My best hope is that due to evolution, I'm bigger than all of them. That won't mean fuck all in combat, obviously, because even if I could take one warrior, the rest would murder me. But if I was lucky they'd see I'm a huge oaf, and just give me work to do, in exchange for food and shelter.

Um... would I get hate crime'd by whatever natives are around in North America at this time? Ironically probably less likely than if it were 1954...

I don't think I'm fit enough to survive a nomadic lifestyle though.

I... I honestly don't know, but I'd probably be better off mentally for a while. Depending on if we're still in the same coordinates, I could just hang out with native americans or whoever is around until I do something to piss one off.

It really just depends on how coastal tribes would treat a random skinny ass white dude with tattoos.

If I can speak a mutual language then maybe I have a chance? But shit even being fluent doesn't necessarily mean I would be able to express myself the way I want to or feel it necessary to.

And then say they do take me in then what good am I to the tribe I can't really swim and dive too well, too small to hunt, I'd be out like weaving baskets with the women all day and then the guys would probably get pissed off and kick me out to the wolves.

Travelling back about a thousand years and being the only white guy in Vietnam, not long after China had finally left. I dont think it would be great for me, though learning the language instantly has some appeal.

Of course, its less appealing when you consider that it would be an archaic form of it that wouldnt match up with whats spoken today.

I think I end up in 582ad USA, no idea what was going on then honestly.

I'm in Michigan as well. I'd be best off trying to float down a river to Lake Michigan while eating fish, so I might survive the summer, but I'm pretty sure winter would be the end. I doubt I'd make it far enough south to survive.

Nope, not happening. I live on a small island that was uninhabited less than a hundred years ago - I would have no way to secure food or water and getting off the island to get somewhere more habitable would be a significant challenge without a boat. Even if I could overcome that, winters here 1000+ years ago were cold and brutal and I would need to survive three of them with no outside assistance.

Forget three years, I'm probably not making it three weeks.

The fundamental flaw is most of the board is north American. Were we European we might feel slightly more confident... but even that is really questionable since it would be really hard to fit in to a society that old.
