And the date is 3 days before I leave on a trip to Ireland.

I don't know how the feds handle it but in state court you can usually just call the number on the summons and tell them you're unavailable that date and they'll give you a new date. Or if you actually have to go in, you just tell the judge and lawyers you're leaving the country in 3 days and they'll strike you for hardship

So I call the night before and it tells me if I have to report or not.
The other annoying thing is that the district court is 2 hours from my house.

Just do what me and another dude did when going for jury selection one time and continually interrupt the prosecutor to bring up all the things theyll have to accommodate you for while the defendant is sitting in the booth thingy looking mildly amused at the prosecutor getting increasingly peeved at the interruptions, as I swear it was only until this very year that I had ever received another jury summons in my life due to that being my first one that I got told they no longer needed me for at the time.

My husband was about to start active duty military orders the day after his summons date, and the judge still made home show up in person at the courthouse.

My son got a summons when he was in college. There was no out of town at college option, and the deferral date was in the middle of the semester. Also, my son is autistic and doesnt drive. He had to submit a map showing that it would take him more than 90 minutes to get to the courthouse from our house (where he wasnt even living at the time). They excused him because our public transportation system is a joke.

Our county epitomizes overzealous. Next time Ill throw the card away. They dont live at this address-never received it.

The last time I got a jury notice, I was having the worst stress and anxiety in my life because of a blood pressure medicine I was taking(didn't realize until it ran out & I stopped taking it, immediately got better). It was so bad that I checked myself into a mental hospital( I was only there a half hour)

How different are federal court jurisdictions? 2 hours away seems a bit much for a trial by peers.
