A rare soft-power win for the US? Further alienation? Puppet papacy?

What do you think?

He's anti-Trump, so probably.
...I think I'm done here...
Voted yes in hope that he'll go hard on his own country's destructive influence on the rest of the world.
It seems inevitable that he'll serve as a friendlier face for the US and maybe even become a new column of US politics. The honeymoon with Trump will end very quickly.

Hopefully that doesn't mean people turn a blind eye because that's exactly what this administration would like.
He will rarely step foot in the US again. It's not like the papal office will be here.

He is the bishop of Rome now

Too early to tell, but apparently he doesn't like what Trump is doing and isn't afraid to express that. A good sign.

Kind of want to hear from all the no's because the comments aren't adding up with the poll, and I admittedly don't know much about him.
Didn't vote on the poll, but I would probably lean "no" simply because America won't care any more about this one than they did the last one.
Edit: Unless they DO care, and end up taking the Russia route of making their own pope.

So the no's are more like saying he won't make a difference in the grand scheme? Certainly more plausible than your edit.
Anyone against the current administration is good for America

The only good thing is that it means that Trump is now the number 2 most influential American.

He is a republican and pro life pope. GOP will use that to their advantage. I give him a few months to settle in before we start seeing it.
Above all things, never be afraid. The enemy who forces you to retreat is himself afraid of you at that very moment.
I prefer no pope in my orange juice.

Which is better for America than Trump being number 1 most influential American.

What I'm most afraid of is the new pope somehow ending up making Trump seem more palatable, stoic, or in some way converted in the eyes of Americans. Better case scenario is Trump keeping up his usual and having the person in the once-most-powerful position in the world at odds with "Trumpism" altogether.
Can't hurt for America to have someone on the world stage who is beloved by millions and isn't a nasty racist sociopath.
