I remember always catching random episodes and enjoyed it but how does the whole series actually hold up?
If you read this signature, then that meant that I had control of what you read for 5 SECONDS!!
Yes

It's great. Once you get to Season 7, there is something you should know: "Stargate SG-1 is a better show without Dr. Daniel Jackson."
I will rule the world, and find that truly good cup of coffee.
It wouldn't have gotten multiple movies and two(?) spin-off shows if it wasn't.

Watched it for the first time about 7 years ago. I really liked it

Stargate is one of my top ten favorite TV franchises. Maybe even top five. And SG-1 is my favorite series in the franchise, although Atlantis is a close second.

Three if you count the cartoon, but that wasn't canon.
It's great, one of my favorites

It's a little slow at the beginning if I remember correctly.
Post #3 is the most offensive thing I've read today.
My head's not torn off, my sunglasses aren't broken. Amen, hallelujah, peanut butter.
There are only like 5 bad episodes in the entire franchise.
I apologize for nothing!
Love it.

Loved the spin offs.

My favourite episode of SG-1 is the groundhog day episode, because all good sci-fi has one!
My favourite dinosaur is the Triceratops.

You clearly don't know about the Conan skit.

For what it is, yeah. It's a little campy and low-budget, but I enjoyed it to enough to watch all ten seasons, one movie, and two spin-offs (minus the last season of Atlantis).
Thus I became a madman.

Great show. But it does start a little slow. Skip Emancipation.

Its good, but I still have issues with the way it handles a few of their lesser explored storylines. I remember being extremely pissed off at Lineas storyline and how that was handled. So much potential.

No no no.

Don't tell people to skip episodes on a first watch, that's silly. Especially since that's a good episode for Carter.

The only really skippable episode is the mushroom people one.

Yeah, it's great. There's a real reason it got 10 seasons.

I don't like how Carter started as a cringy "girl power" character

I do like that they make fun of that in the later seasons.

Atlantis might have the best premiere episode I've seen from a spinoff show.

On rewatch, the show kinda struggles with how to handle its characters, but it's still solid.

I didn't get into Universe at all when it aired, but I finally binged it a couple years ago and it's...fine. It definitely deserves a third final season just to wrap up its plot threads. The lore it was delving into was really cool.

I really don't think she did?

They basically shot that whole notion down in her first scene when Hammond pointed out that she was way smarter than any of the rest of them, and when she just flatly said "yes" to Kowalski asking if she'd ever pulled 6Gs in an F-18 and he had no real response.

I have the DVDs and listen to commentaries, Peter DeLuise ( Dom DeLuise's son ) directed a ton of episodes and is a silly gentleman.

It was really interesting and had some really unique ideas in a series of series that had become very formulaic.

They definitely had to end it abruptly because it got canceled.

No, she really did. It was the whole "genitals" speech she made, and they made fun of it in Season 8, I think.

But seriously, Carter was rough in Season 1, which is why they introduced her dad in Season 2. The whole Julinar thing, too, but that didn't really stick in the long run and wasn't very memorable; the best thing that came out of that storyline was Martouf. Daddy Carter was.

It's fantastic, so is Stargate Atlantis.

In fact, so good that I have both of those series on DvD and uploaded them to my plex server so I can watch whenever I want.

That line might have been a little on the nose, but she said it for a reason: she was thrown into a 99% male environment and had to prove herself to a bunch of military men who were fully prepared to not take her seriously at all. She'd probably been doing that her entire career in the Air Force.

I'm not really sure what you mean by that second part, they introduced family members of most major characters in season 1 or 2.

I feel the same. I caught a episode about a month ago. My thought was why did this get cancelled again? I believe they had to decide who would go to the nearest planet. They had a handful of shuttles or it was just 1 cant remember. Everyone else was left to die or so they thought. Turns out the ship was refueling from the star.
All the iron turn to rust. All the proud men turn to dust. All things time will mend
The big issue with Carter at the start of the series was the writer didn't have a proper grasp of military procedure, so she did a lot of stuff that didn't really fit, and that was mostly fixed partway through the first season once they had someone from the military looking over scripts. Some of the other characters, like Kawalski were hit by that as well, but it was worst for her as she was a main character. O'Neill though wasn't hit as badly with those issues because as a colonel with a black ops background who had retired and was brought back in, he was more apt to ignore proper protocol anyway.

Because it didn't really feel like Stargate, it was feeling more like Battlestar Galactica and quite frankly? A lot of Stargate fans weren't tuning in because of it.

I really liked Universe, maybe even more than the original series, but it was a pretty big shift in tone and style, to the point it was basically a completely different show with only superficial Stargate dressing, so sadly it makes a disappointing amount of sense why it ended up canceled.

There's also a lot of accuracy here as well. Fact is there's a number of reasons for why Universe failed.

Its because MGM Universal went bankrupt and Atlantis was both expensive and not very good.

This's a really good interview with Joe Flanigan (Sheppard) where he goes over the canceling of Atlantis and some of what happened with Universe. It's pretty insightful.
