Putting the only things people will actually care about in the collab in the cash shop for a limited run to trigger fomo is certainly a choice.

We were planning on checking the game out again this season because of the collab event. Probably would have ended up purchasing the expansion too if the game was in a good state but I guess not.

Phew, it's all paid stuff. I don't have to load back up to get actual rewards for playing and can go back to ignoring Diablo again until they get their head out of their asses and fix shit.
