Got recced this video. The comments seemed off to me so I tried to search for an actual article and the only thing that wasnt a repeat of the video was:

https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/1ketkwk/wtf_is_this_suppose_to_be

Everything about this video with 1 million views is fake.

Its a good thing it was a fake name. I can imagine if it had a bunch of fake detail along with some few truthful information.

Its scary how easy misinformation can spread these days.
This kind of stuff has been around forever.

Videos of completely made up information that gets millions of views in a day with comments that are completely bots?

Last month or so they kept recommending me quasi-political news videos from a bunch of random sources the majority of which seemed to be Indian based on their name. Not sure why Indian news sources would pick up stories local sources haven't covered. . .

Yes.

Examples? Usually there's at least some sources for it even if it's from noncredible tabloids or reddit threads. Completely made up stories with fake AI photos is new to me.

I'm going to do a half step back and you can blast me you want. But take those individual parts of what you're asking about and ask about each of them.
  • Have we seen videos where there are non-sources or obviously bullshit sources, or stuff from /r/thathappened on reddit? Yes. We even see whole "game journalism" sites who only seem to take the top voted reddit post from gaming and turn it into an article.
  • Completely made up stories. Obviously.
  • Bots adding views to videos. Obviously.
  • Bots commenting on videos. Obviously.

It isn't surprising when it all gets put together. I'm looking at a reddit post from a year ago where a dude made a Youtube channel that is all AI. The only thing he has to do is click "upload video" He doesn't write, he doesn't do the artwork, he doesn't pick the music, it's all AI generated.

I just had to yell at my mom yesterday because I saw her scrolling through her phone and she was looking at all of that AI/bullshit stuff that's at the ass end questionable websites."40 people who are gay and 8 will shock you." "Take one tablespoon of this and you'll lose 100 pounds" People do fall for it.

I mean one year ago is pretty recent. Cait is acting like this has been a big thing prior to AI enshittification. I know I havent been recced 100% AI videos that looked like actual news media with millions of views before.

I mean in the scope of fake news being pushed without a source, with people citing fake sources and acting in agreement. It goes back to simple things like fake reviews, fake scientific peer reviews with people claiming ridiculous things like oil spills arent harmful, to dumb things like Batboy marrying that woman, if you were around for that. But if this is solely about AI doing it, then yeah. I was thinking too broadly.

I feel like this is just going to become a bigger problem for youtube and for social media platforms. Low effort clickbait has always been a thing on those platforms but AI means it's quicker and cheaper to do so these platforms could end up getting so flooded with cheap AI content that they become damn near unusable. I don't know what the solution to that is except maybe it gives rise to different platforms that are much more restrictive about what gets posted to their platform and by who.
"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life."
Come to think of it, if there's an AI video, made by AI, commented on by bots, with a million views, and the video has ads, do the videos do generate ad revenue?
Sigs are rather pointless, except if it's to showcase animation and images.

I almost want to see what video it is, but I also don't want similar stuff on my recommended.

Unfortunately I'm not surprised that there's 100% fabricated videos supported by bots being made now.

You can always go into your history and remove things from there. I've noticed it does cut down on the "oh you watched how to replace a toilet? Here is nothing BUT videos about toilets now!"

Seems this completely fake video with fake images actually got noticed and age gated by youtube. That's something I didn't expect.
