I love it so much here. I hate America
Me too.

When I was bathing naked with the locals in a sento, staring at a beautiful painting of Mt. Fuji as I soaked in the hot bath water next to some dude reading a book, I came to a revelation: Weebs were right, Japan is just better >_> I was born in the wrong country lol

Such a peaceful and authentic Japanese experience!! I really want to try onsen or sento but I'm terrified at the concept lol
I did it like 5 times, nearly every day! It was amazing. Hanging d*** with the locals didn't bother me after doing it once lol

Definitely try it. Just go for it and see

Im trying to gain the courage. My hotel has a public bath and I might go tonight if I can (wo)man up!
You got enough courage stat like in Persona! I even got my friends to join me on my last night too and they all agreed it was amazing and wish they did it earlier. Don't regret not doing it.

Ive never cared for Tokyo but Im glad youre appreciating the experience. If its in your budget, I recommend checking out Yurakucho/Ginza. If youre feeling a little bit adventurous, go to Odaiba and also checkout Yokohama. The Skytree and the shopping mall below it are pretty fun too.

Shinjuku/Kabukicho, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, and Akihabara are all toilets in my opinion.

If youre interested in 20th century pop culture, I recommend going to Nakano and checking out some of the stores they have at the Nakano Broadway.

I loved Odaiba! I went a year ago, it's a really cool little place. Walking the bridge there is a fond memory, I'm hoping to do that again. And the beach there is cute

Thank you for the recommendations! I have no itinerary so I'll take anything hehe

its been 3 years since I last went there, I cant remember if they still have the big Gundam.

If you can hold your liquor, there is a chain of bars called The Public Stand that allows you to drink as much as you want. Just have your passport ready. A lot of people go there to socialize, both foreigners and Tokyoites. Just drink responsibly and youll probably meet some groups of people who are looking to be social and recommend places around the city to see.

I was in Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto for a week and I'm sure Japan has its problems, plus I was on vacation/honeymoon so there's that, but it felt like such a better place to live than anywhere in America. Im jealous you're there rn. I can't wait to go back lol

Japan is a much nicer place to live. The only things I find unbearable are the summers and the tourists. :P

Hell yeah, I've been there a few times, got some Famicom and Super Famicom games, and G1 Transformers. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

My favourite thing is being in a city of millions of people, and everyone keeps to themselves. Oh, and I can eat as fast and as loud as I want!

do you need to know anyone Japanese, or can you get by with English?

Oh yeah then why don't you marry it?

They pretty much make it foreigner friendly.they expect anyone not native to speak English pretty much. But they are really happy when you speak any Japanese. Just had that at a sushi place last night. The staff was freaking awesome and friendly.

In any major city you don't need to know Japanese to go anywhere a tourist would normally want to go. If you go to the middle of nowhere where I live that's a different story, but most people wouldn't try to do that on vacation.

Honestly since I am with my brother, we tend to stay closer to cities but I really would love to check out more boonie areas at times. I get pretty daring with my badly spoken Japanese, lmao. But it helps encourage me. I would absolutely love getting to speaking level of Japanese to which I could speak AND understand perfectly. But not living here makes it incredibly hard to get to that point.

Overall or foodwise? Did the typical nara stuff. Did shopping. Went to Dragon quest island. Doing an escape room in 2 hours, seeing a comedy show at Namba today just after it. Going to try an okonomiyaki place later. If you recommend that ramen place, we have one night left here. Maybe we will check it out

Japan is awesome, and I say that as somebody who also has zero interest in anime. I go there regularly.

If, at any point in the future, I was to move out of Vietnam, the main countries Id be considering are Japan and Thailand.

In Kyoto now and really sad I'm missing the shrines my first visit out here. Friend slept in until literally just now and we have the Nintendo Museum to hit up in a couple hours. Leaving early tomorrow for Osaka.

Hope your trip's a blast! And if my plans overlap with anyone else's, it'd be cool to say hi. Quite a few people out here. Also met some cool fellow foreigners last night.

I do recommend that ramen shop. It's super tiny but it wasn't busy when we went. It was the best ramen we had on the whole trip imo.

There's also this Japanese kawaii punk hookah bar not too far away. I forget its name but it was fun vibes lol

If either of you are going to Asakusa I recommend a bar called Not Suspicious. Super small place but the vibes are super cool. And if by the off chance you're in Kawasaki I rec Bar Laugh. Super nice couple owns the bar. High end cocktails with pristine presentation for super cheap. Tell them their friends from Vegas sent you.

Tomorrow I'm going to kyoto to stay at a hostel for a few days. I'll have 3 other ladies in my room. I gooe they're cool! There's an onsen a 10 minute walk away that allows tattoos, so it must be foreigner friendly. I'm thinking about doing it

I was just at Nara the other day. Had a softcream cone and the stands had no more deer cookies. I had a doe headbutting the Hell out of me for my cone, lmao

I miss Japan so much. The cheap yet great convenience store food, the cleanliness, but I think what I miss most of all is just how the people are so considerate. Here in Hawaii there are asswipes either blasting their music or revving their illegally modified cars so loud you can actually feel the vibration from the sound, or yelling on their speaker phone even after the recording on the bus says For the courtesy of other passengers, please silence mobile phone ringers and refrain from loud conversations while riding the bus.

Boy I got bad news for you on that one. Japanese motorcycle riders and removing mufflers is a tradition that is very much still alive.

Japan in general is just great. things that struck me the most each time I visited:

- kids walking alone is real and isn't a meme, they really do feel safe enough to be left on their own like that
- the elderly seem to be really taken care of. a lot of them held simple jobs and look healthy and happy, or at least content
- everyone seems so healthy
- idk if the karoshi thing (death by overwork) is actually true, people seem to come and go on the standard rush hours (8 am and 6pm). maybe it's only specific companies and people who really want to climb the corporate ladder?

some of my favorite places, some were already mentioned ITT:

- nakano broadway
- mikado arcade (there's two branches iirc)
- shirakawa-go
