Mentioned here I inherited my late GF's switch, and we use to buy/play games online simultaneously within our countries using the old method. Only needed one digital copy, so I'm surprised nintendo let us do it for so long, and they instructed us on it, so seems grimy to eliminate it with the introduction of "virtural cards."

My switch updated, but stopped before hers did.

Greedy fuckers.

Was that the same as the Xbox game sharing by having one of your Xbox's the "home" console and playing on another?

I just saw the update on my switch and honestly, the whole virtual card thing is kind of annoying.

Barely used my xbox one, but basically IIRC. Did it let you play each other off one copy? That's what the old method did.

You apparently still can as long as one of the consoles isn't online, but otherwise they made it work like Steam Family Share or whatever, now.

Yea, so on Xbox, right now I have my sister's Xbox as my account's home Xbox, so she can play all the digital games that I own. And I can still play them on my Xbox as well as long as I'm online. We can play the same game together at the same time.

I didn't know Nintendo had that as well.

You just gotta trust the person you give account access to on their switch.

  • they add your game profile with you staying primary user.
  • they run your digital game using your profile.
  • You run the same game using another profile as your switch is primary, then you can play it together off one copy.
if primary went in airplane, could both play the game using your main profile.

They even told you about it. I don't know how they could stop it without undermining the console, but it was a very nice thing to leave alone though they tolerated it at most.

That guide that nintendo wrote telling you how to do the game share exploit is gone now.

They had absolutely no reason to not leave it alone as an alternative beyond being greedy.

It's gross how they flipping now that they got their momentum back.

It's tossed around alot, but that's anti consumer as fuck.

Sorry to bump this old topic, but I just found out about this and I hate it! Thankfully there seems to be an option to go back to online license checks in the settings, but it may not fix the playing together thing.

Looks like it didn't when i checked it out. I swear it was designed for that purpose, and they were sure to erase that faq endorsing the old method too. They stated you could opt out, but in hindsight PR wording as you couldn't revert back to the old method.
