Part of the reason Reddit enforces so much circlejerk, you either agree with the sub or get downvoted.
Generally the most voted is either the funniest or some sarcastic quip.

I always hear complaints about the Reddit downvote/upvote system but Ive never used reddit so have no first hand experience with it. I mean its not like your post disappears does it? If its just a downvote who cares? Its like when YouTube had visible likes/dislikes it had zero impact on a video to me. Is that any different than a bunch of people quoting something you say on gamefaqs to argue against it?
It does influences things a bit but not much. Upvoted posts gets the spotlight and the downvoted ones gets hidden and thrown into the backburner of the log. Part of the reason it is so annoying to talk because there's barely a sorting order in there. Reddit threads enforces more group reaction than group discussion.
Part of the reason I miss forums.
