I liked how Oblivion felt more like a proper RPG with proper RPG classes/builds and/or the freedom to do whatever you wanted instead. The leveling system was just beyond broken to the point that it made it worse than most games out there. Hopefully they fixed it. There have certainly been plenty of proof of concepts out there from modders.
Yeah, the leveling system was fucking bonkers. It was quite hilarious how you could just get filthy rich by just repeatedly raiding marauder dungeons and sell daedric sets.
Unless you properly and meticulously picked the right stats, or just outright didn't level up at all, you could quickly find yourself being overwhelmed by enemies that previously weren't that difficult.
For example I was able to pretty easily deal with Clannfears when they started showing up. Could kill one in less than ten hits and could handle small groups if It didn't let them go full gank squad on me.
Fast forward about ten levels, where you'd think I'd be absolutely stomping them into the dirt. Wrong. I had to dance around them and cheese the fuck out of them, because I'd die in just a few hits, whereas they were damage sponges that took more than double the hits previously that it took to kill them. And don't get me me started on how bandits level, going from trash to OP freaks running around in the best armor in the game that actually contradicted lore.
Speaking of the goofy leveling system, try waiting to show up to Kvatch. Instead of weak little scamps running around you'll get those Clannfear assassins that deal fifty bajillion damage. You'll feel less like a hero and more like you've stepped into the wrong end of one of Hircine's Hunts.
You have no clue how happy I am I'm not alone in this. The first time I played Oblivion I ended up quitting and restarting because of this. I couldn't beat that mission and learned I had level combat primarily so I made a new character and got it strong enough before I did the not directly combat related skills. My very first character was an Unarmed brawler type.
Hopefully the combat is more.....engagingAn issue with all ES that they never fix. It is actually my biggest hope for ESVI.

There were flame atronarchs everywhere and they would just butcher the guards that are supposed to help you. It was such a slog.

Loaded a slightly older save and made a 100% chameleon on touch skill to protect an npc since 100% chameleon in oblivion means the AI straight up doesnt know that entity exists.
available day 1 on Gamepass. So, doomed to be deemed a failure on day 1 by the corporate entity backing BGS.

It was such a slog.It is near impossible to keep them alive when your level is high enough. They don't get stronger at all.
I thought we left that "realism is brown" thing in the late 00s.
I wonder if all the previous DLC is included, like Mehrunes' Razor or the hideouts. They should still sell (25-ish cents) the Horse Armor separately, for the lols.

Yeah, the leveling system was fucking bonkers.Ya mean to tell me you didn't like the bandits wearing full daedric or glass armor attempting to mug you because they can't afford food [nevermind it was to steal 100 gold from you ffs]? Bruh wtf are you wearing then?

That is one thing Skyrim absolutely does better, with how it handles level scaling. It isn't flawless, but there is the sense of progression as you go up in levels where you feel stronger as you level up.
I'd like to see a mixture of Skyrim where some areas have a level range they scale to, and lock at depending where you are when you first enter, and others that are just static. Like where you start should have static low level enemies no matter your character level, but there should be areas that will stomp your ass if you're unprepared. Say you're level 20 and unless you have excellent mastery of the mechanics, you will get stomped by enemies hard coded to be in the 40s or higher. But level up and improve your skills and you can come back and stomp them. That is a progression that feels satisfying.
Not like vanilla Oblivion, where the leveling is the one thing that nearly ruined the game for me.
Can I get one without a Breaking Bad Mexico filter on it.
Honestly, this is the best news I've had all year. Like legitimately a bright ray of sunshine, something to look forward to. I can't wait.Yeah, my gripe about desaturation aside, I'm stoked.

Well, one downside to the more uniform color scheme is that it won't be as easy to spot all the various NPCs who die in the grass in random spots because they cannot survive their weekly or monthly trips across the map.

While I joked about the Seducers I do wonder what will happen to the highly inappropriate Orc in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary: the one that brags about killing children and stealing women's underwear. Also, will they change how Nords are portrayed? It felt like 95% of the characterization of Nords in Oblivion was a fantasy world version of, "I like beer!"
