Its developer uploaded content about it to its site early and it looks like all the previous rumors were true.

So they ditched the games lush greens and dreamlike aesthetic for drab realism.

Yeah, Im not a big fan of making everything brown.
Sir Markham pointed out, drinking another brandy. "A chap who can point at you and say 'die' has the distinct advantage".
It looks so dead and depressing
^ Hey now that's completely unfair!

In cases like this, I don't mind the realistic look tbh.
Surely that is remade from the ground up and not remastered?

Also the original looks better, based entirely on those pics as I've never played it.
Are they fixing the leveling is my question.
When you find my sanity, please ask it to put pants on and return home, in that order please.
You guys are crazy. Those tiny little screenshots look great, and of the two outdoor ones, one features plenty of green. I don't expect this to have the charm of the original game, but I expect I will love everything about it.

Why do some people think the real world is just shades of brown? It looks like TES: New Vegas.

Fortunately, Oblivion and New Vegas happen to be my favorites of their respective series, so I'm still excited. Hopefully someone will make a mod to add some greenery back in.
The food here is terrible. My steak was so tough it attacked my coffee and the coffee was too weak to defend itself.
I never got into it when it first launched. I tried, years later, with a bunch of mods and made some progress but for some reason I stopped. I'm kind of excited for this remake or whatever it is honestly.

For me it's more of a desaturation thing. The vibrant tones of the original added to the overall fantastical feel of the world, imo.

Not liking how dried and washed out everything looks. If that had been what I saw after escaping the sewer, my jaw probably wouldn't have dropped the way it did when I originally played.

The next gen filter is back!
It doesn't look good that way. Guess I'll be holding out for Skyblivion still
I think one of those pictures does look pretty green, but the island with ruins is way more eye catchingly brown. I think there's room for both, especially if things becoming more brown/dead is a direct effect of Oblivion Gates. I'm not sure I have the confidence of them being that inventive with it, though.

Personally I'm more interested in gameplay and balance changes than graphics in the end. Even then, I'm not sure I'd want to jump in for an entire new playthrough of a game I've already spent so long on.
That looks like absolute dogshit.

True... that is part of the charm of the original. I wonder if there will be enbseries for it, then we could make it more vibrant.

The logos for platforms confirm that the Remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X. It will also be available on day one through Xbox Game Pass.

Game Pass is nice.

It looks far better than I ever expected. I thought we would just get HD potato original.
Ghosts are cool.
Don't like the brown filter. Oblivion was literally glowing with contrast on bright days, keep it that way.
And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to your span of life?
It's Guide
Is it going to likely be a complete overhaul that's not compatible with the existing mods? Vanilla will certainly sell enough to justify it, but I can't imagine people flocking over if they'd need to redo all mods from scratch.
Sounds like wishful thinking. What do people think bethsda has to gain by releasing a remake without any advertising has to gain?

The rumours of it shadow dropping were around for weeks before these screenshots leaked.

Yes it's a full remake

And guys it could just be the time of day looking saturated. The first picture looks plenty green and also not as bright because it's not obliterated with bloom like the original was. A setting sun would make things look like the second picture

Either way it looks excellent I'm curious what else they've changed

The optimistic answer would be that they're confident with their work and know that the game will sell itself. That along with everyone's remake/remaster fatigue may have led them to decide not to market it.

It says "remastered" in the picture. It looks very much creation engine/gamebryo to me, especially in the interior image. If that's the case then I'm doubting the gameplay or much else other than graphics will change much.

Brown and bloom.

Looking how it should for 2005 design influences.

I'm pretty excited... Just downloaded Oblivion on my laptop but if this drops soon, I'll definitely try the Remaster out...

I swear to god, that bottom-right pic had better be at sunset, in overcast weather, with your character's eyes still adjusting to the light after having stepped out of the sewers for the first time.

If you'd asked me if there was one thing that would be an instant turn-off for this Oblivion remake, I wouldn't have said throwing a brown/gray bloom over the overworld, because it never would've entered my brainspace that a developer in 2025 would actually do that. I spent way too many years hating / modding that shit out of Skyrim to just shrug my shoulders and be okay with it infecting Cyrodiil; Cyrodiil's lush and vibrant worldspace was one of the few clear edges it had over Vvardenfell and Skyrim.

(and I hate to say it, but there's hints of just that in the other two outdoor screencaps as well)

I thought we left that "realism is brown" thing in the late 00s.

This. Game was amazing but leveling and enemy growth was completely out of whack.
Hmm...
We need more bright, colorful fantasy games. Too many drab ones out and about.

People will fix the brown filter, really dumb that modders need to though.

I think as someone else suggested this one has to do with sun light/time of day. Looks like the sun is setting left of screen.

I see a lot of speculation out there that because it's remaster and not remake the bad levelling is likely still there.

I also know there are plenty of oblivion purists out there.

Hard to believe that they'd do it. Morrowind gets lauded exclusively, so the idea that they'd remove the Morrowind leveling system from Oblivion feels unlikely.

That's pretty close to what the Skyrim tundra looks like on a crystal-clear midday, which is worrisome.

I'll withhold judgment until I see it in action, as these images are questionable at worst. But I'm not exaggerating when I say that Skyrim weather / desaturation is the absolute last thing I wanted to see in an Oblivion remake.

But brown and bloom makes everything realistic. Some art director there hasn't graduated from 2006.
